How do I use my new machine's "Spool Cushion"?

I just bought a new Brother PQ1500S and it has what is called a "Spool Cushion". All it says in the manual is "Use it when using parallel-wound thread or when using cross-wound thread". But it does NOT show me exactly how to use it. I have no idea how it works. I tried google for information but had no luck finding anything. I appreciate any help you can give me.

I "Googled" it and to me it looks like it is something to stabilize the spool so it doesn't wobble on the spool pin.

I use mine on my Bernina to have the thread come off the spool smoothly without the spool turning. I put the cushion on the right end of the spool pin, push the spool against it and add the right size disc after the spool to lock it in place. This lets just the thread feed off the spool nicely at an even tension.

I love that it says to use with "parallel-wound thread or when using cross-wound thread"! Are there any other kinds? Manuals! So helpful!

What does this "spool cushion" look like? I have Brother machines and don't have one or so I think? Maybe check out the Brother website?

It looks like a cone adapter.

Okay...I don't own any big spools so I need to educate myself on those. Thank you for helping me out.

I have that machine and I leave the cushion on all the time. I use big cones of thread mostly, but do use regular spools at times. It works great for me.
