I love Kim Diehl's books and in her new one, Simple Graces there is a fantastic yo yo quilt. I am cutting circles but now I wonder how this quilt will wash? Do the yo yo's stay the same after washing? What do I need to know, please? The quilt is on the cover of the book and I saw it in person in Utah and loved it. What has experience taught you about yo yo's.

Well, the yo-yo's will be tacked to the top fabric and then they are tacked to the yo-yo's on each side. This keeps them laying flat during use and after washing. I haven't seen this book but that is my guess.

I would think if washed carefully, it should be fine. I looked at it at Amazon and it looks like a fun quilt to make. And lots of other good patterns in that book, also.

why don't you do a small square with yo yo's. A test piece. and wash it and see how it goes. :?:

Vacuming a wall hanging will extend the niceness of the yoyos. Eventually you'll have to wash it, gently or by hand. Lay flat to dry.

Yo yo's have been around since forever so I imagine they are ok but wanted to hear from the voices of experience. Good ideas, test block, laying it flat, will do, thanks.

All of her books are fantastic. She uses Civil War fabrics but they always seem so much brighter. She throws in a few others to break it but they are beautiful. JoAnn's carries her books so use a coupon and buy them all. In person, the yo yo quilt was unreal. I wish I could show you the real thing. Do consider making it.

I made a yo-yo scarf, tacked them to each other. I wash it in the washing machine and put it in the dryer with no problems. The scarf looks great.

i completely stitched my yo-yos down to the background blocks- like an applique piece- so i do not envision having any problems when it comes to laundering---i sure hope anyway- i don't know how they could mess up- they are stitched all the way around.
i've seen lots of toys made with yo-yo's and those can be washed too--
if you are worried about it i would just do a practice piece and see how it goes.
