There are lots of websites on frugal quilting too.

I bought a 3 tiered skirt at the thrift shop for $1.00. There was enough fabric in it for a backing and pieces for 2 other quilts.

My husband was the primary bread winer in our household, with my job coming in way down the list of "good paying jobs." Well, he lost his job in January, and so far there are no hopes in sight for anything promising.
The mortgage has to take priority now, so I have put the word out to a few fellow quilters that I will barter. One gal hates to bind, so I am going to bind a quilt of hers in trade for fabric. Another also hates to bind, and she is a LAQ. We are trading my binding service for her long arm service on a quilt I had in progress. My stash is small, so in order to keep doing what I love I have started making the wall hangings I have on my to do list. I'm trying to make them out of my not-so-big stash. Hoping for better financial times for so many of us... |
i do scrappy so i buy so many yards and still got fabric i haven't use i stop doing two colors or quilts that i have too buy a lots of fabric at once and when i do have extra money i might buy a few yard more to do a quilt

I'm a big fan of recycling clothes, jeans, and using thrift stores. Every now and then I really do good. For backing, I have had to use muslin @ times, although I prefer fabric of color other than muslin. I'm on a fixed income to. I usually buy the batting @ JoAnns and use the 50% off coupon

I don't quilt as much anymore. Fabric has gone up $1-$3 more per yard. I realized that I don't donate quilts as often, which is unfortunate. I cut back on extras and only buy what I absolutely needs--that applies to my household budget as well as my quilting passion.
