Like Bob Dole, hold something in your hands and it will slow them down enough to say, "I have pain in my hands so I don't shake."

I like this idea. My dog tripped me up and when I fell I overextended my ring and middle fingers on my right hand. An old acquaintance shook my hand recently and it nearly brought me to my knees.

Oh. I had never thought that I might hurt someone with a handshake. Thank you all for making me realize that I need to be careful about handshaking and hugs.

I have RA in my hands and I just make sure that only the tips of my fingers get grabbed when shaking hands. Bend at the nuckles with your fingers at a 90 degree or so. You thumb will automaticly stop them from grabbing your whole hand. It gets easier as you go. Good Luck and lots of hugs.
I do that and was I surprised when a man kissed my hand instead of shaking it!
