Lots of great info about your favorite threads! Now, how do you choose your thread color?

I'm going to be piecing dark, rich colors (purple, green, gold) with a lot of yellow/gold fabric.

What would be the best color thread for me to use? Khaki, gold, etc??

What ever I have. I don't try to match the thread unless I'm doing garments.

A gray color might be good.

For piecing - I always use Gutterman's Grey #102.

A dark to medium grey. Just sew it on the yellow and see if the seam shows too bad. I think dark stitches showing through are as distracting as white stitches showing through on a dark fabric.

it depends---are you talking about for piecing or for quilting? or both?
for piecing i would choose a neutral that wont really show up anywhere-
for quilting it again depends-
do you want the thread to show?
or would you rather it disappear?
you could use invisible thread- or a medium gray
if you want it to stand out then a gold- or a different stand out thread-

i usually pull a couple different ones i think might work- pull some thread out and lay it across the quilt top to see how it looks on the fabric
there are also nice verigated threads on the market that could be an option- again- if you want the stitches to show up

I mostly use neutrals for piecing. I have a light sage green that blends with nearly everything though. I do use darker neutrals with darker fabrics.

I never even thought of gray. I will have to try that. I do not have a stitch of grey thread in my house...sounds like a trip to the LQS is needed. ; )

I use a lot of grey. When I use mostly white fabric I use white or beige. When I use black with other darks, I use black. But mostly grey.
