Usually based on how much fabric I have and if it's going to be quilted by me or sent out :-) and of course if it's for a bed I size it to the bed.
|
If I have to fit a quilt to a bed, then I make the quilt PLENTY big enough.
Quilts get a bit smaller in the quilting process. Cotton shrinks when it is washed. And I want a bed quilt to not only fit over the bed, but to fit well over my husband and me when we are both in the bed under the quilt, with no tug of war over the quilt. If I am just making a quilt to make one, I like to make sofa size throws, about 50 x 70 inches. That is small enough to finish, but big enough to show the design repeat well. It is also usuable for Project Linus or for Quilts of Valor if I decide to give it away. |

Do you try to make your quilt sizes coincide with bed sizes? Or do your quilts just end up as big as the end up? |
Make for the bed. Love to be completely wrapped up so small lap quilts aren't good for me.

I don't - the quilt usually does it for me....when it looks right I stop. ( I know I am nutty>>)

I make it as large as I have the material for. if its a scrappy, it varies. I tend to build from center out.

When I make quilts for charity I usually make them single bed size and if I am making quilts for our church bazaar I make them queen size.

I've never made a bed size quilt. Most of mine have been generous lap sized. Since I love scrappy, I stop when I stop.

Mine are always planned but some times I have to add a border because I want it to be larger
