Maryse, do you mind if I save that pic? That one looks perfect!

I made a Queen-sized log cabin for my sister. Because she likes black and white (and I don't) I had to toss in a teal star. She still loves her quilt. The bear paw uses lots of HSTs - are you ready for all that trimming?

Either pattern is great. Personally, I prefer the Bear Paw less scrappy - or scrap organized by each set of paws.

ahh hst's....I did a whole twin size quilt for ds using them to make pinwheels. So I think it'll be ok. I might be able to do the log cabin part scrappy and the bear paw less scrappy....I'll just have to play around and see. My goal will be to use what I have and not buy anything but batting and maybe backing.

Why not incorporate both patterns? I think the 2 would go together great. ;) example below[/quote]

I think that marsye has the perfect solution!!!

I did not make this quilt, but a good example of combining log cabin and another block.
I do have a king I made, "All bears need homes". bear paw and log cabin blocks. If you are interested I can take a picture.

If you're worried about having a UFO...make your blocks good size so you are making the teensy claws talked about in an earlier post.

Oh Marsye!!! I think that is just gorgeous!!!

I really like Marsye's idea, and I think it would be really easy for a beginner. I think your attitude of one block at a time is the correct attitude. A king takes a while to make, so just keep plugging away at it. You'll get there. Good luck.
