Thanks, Jacquie for the links.

I use an old Altoid's container. They sell a round one and it's perfect.
|
The spent needles I save them in one of the 35mm plastic film canisters. I never thought about the metal recyclers, have one not far away. Like that idea, if I can't find a non-profit that can use the old blades the recyler is a good option. Chris

I put them in an old case that some came in!
|
Thanks.
|
I use an old cake frosting bucket and dispose of them when it's full.
|
I store mine in a large medicine bottle...it is just the right size to drop the blade into. since it held really big pills, it will take a long time to fill it up. When that happened, I'll just drop it in the trash and start over with a new bottle. You might try buying an empty bottle at your pharmacy.
|
I use LP Sharp, also. Send them a dull 45mm Olfa and $3 and they send you a brand new one in exchange. Other 45mm blades are $2.20 so the information below is a little confused. I just sent them 26 (yes 26) 45mm and 1 60mm Olfa blades and a check for $83 (60mm are $5) and got brand new ones back. Best part is that there is a place to recycle your old blades without sending them to landfills.

Must have been writing as previous person was posting. |
I tape mine up and in the trash.
|
i put my old blades in my husbands discarded snuff cans perfect fit (cheaper brands are plastic )copenhagen are paper , when full wrap tape around them and throw in trash
|
Dritz used to recyle old blades. Glad to have another source. Thanks for the info.
|
the sharpeners are great but after a couple of sharpens they are thin and break easily
|
I use an old perscription bottle that they just fit into. I have gone to the pharmacy at walmart and asked for one the diameter of the blade. They hold a lot of blades and are safe to dispose of.
|
I wrap them in tape and throw them away. I never even thought there might be other options!

I save the hard plastic container they come in and put the used blades in them and then into the trash.

Here's the chain of life for my blades..
1) Fabric cutting only 2) Non-Fabric use (I have a cutter specifically for this) 3) Disposal I use the prescription bottle method for my used blades waiting to be used as Non-Fabric/Paper Use and Disposal as well as used needles. |
I use the larger pill bottles that peoples drugs come in. find someone who gets that size and have them save you a few. My husband gets one of his drugs in one and it holds the blades and old needles. Then put tape on bottle and label it so they know sharp objects are in it.
Good Luck Suzy |
When my plastic cases are full of old blades I take them to my doctor's office and they put them in their "sharps" container.
|
I put mine in the plastic "disc" they came in. I usually buy in a 5 blade containers
|
You're lucky. They pay big bucks to have medical wastes picked up and properly disposed of.

If you take a screw driver you can pop off the sharps container lid . then it just snaps back on. that's what I do.

I saved an International Coffee's tin and cut a slit in the lid - I put old blades - needles, and damaged pins in it. I will take it to a junk yard, and give it to them, they will recycle it, and no worry about someone getting hurt.

I put them in a paper towel then duct tape that so it doesn't come out.

I have a large thick plastic container I use for sharps including blades. It has a screw on lid. :)

They're metal, so why not. |
O.k. Ladies. Rotary blades are considered a sharp. you can put them in sharp containers and then drop them off at your local hospital who will dispose of them properly. If they go in the trash, then they will go to the landfill. These blades don't decompose quickly and can stay there for more than a 100 yrs. That is someone else many times later down the road who can get hurt by them. I would like to see these blades be recycled in some way. So will do more research and see what I can find out.

I designate a handle or two, and use the old blades for cutting paper, so by the time they are used a lot more
they are very dull. Then I roll them on my glass table top or a glass plate or bottle and dull them even more ( Glass is harder than steel - It does not even mark glass) and put them into a tin can and put them into the trash. |

Have you had luck with the Harbor Freight blades? Both my sister in Charleston, SC and I (in Frankfort, KY) bought some and they were horrible!! They didn't cut fabric worth a darn!! I was just reading through this thread thinking about sending them to be sharpened!!!

The only ones I've bought from Harbor Freight didn't cut AT ALL! You've had luck with them?
