When you put the binding on a quilt, how do you finish the ends. I always put the end at the corner. I usually miter them but the back doesnt seem to want to lie flat. What am i doing wrong? My sister never miters hers. She just folds the ends in and sews them. I thnk they look kind of messy that way. How do you do them?

I use Sharon Schambers' technique. Since I started doing mine this way, I always have perfectly mitered corners. It takes a while to glue everything down, but it makes the sewing go so much more quickly.

I have never put the ends of my binding in the corner, this causes too much bulk. I don't know of tutorial for sewing the binding on but have a wonderful one for ending your binding. Comes out perfect every time.

Not me Loretta. I can't hand sew, so you can count me in the "no glue" group. But, I'm going to try it. Just have to clean off the dining table so I have room enough to do this.
I'd like to try her way of hand sewing it...looks pretty easy, but I'm confused on her when she put the knot (?) up by the eye of the needle? If there's a knot there, how does it go thru the fabric? Am I NOT seeing it right or what??

I was gluing before gluing won the top awards :D My DH was in the military and was forever getting new ranks with patches that had to be sewn on his uniform. Elmer's All Purpose Glue held those suckers on tight even going through base laundry.

I am going shoping for Elmers glue today. I have been using Fons and Porters glue stick but Elmers gives so much more control.
Love the video. Dont think I will be that much of a perfectionist about it and will machine sew in the ditch. No hand sewing for me.
My quilts will not be in any shows so perfection not needed.

I think you have to add your own metal top. I've never seen school glue with a metal top.

No, I've never glued. I pin, pin, pin, pin all the way around it. I then machine stitch the binding.

Thanks everyone for the information and all the links. I have found lots of new ways to do my binding. I will try them until I find the one that works best for me.

That's not a knot up by the eye of the needle. She actually pierces the thread with the needle to make the loop. All this does is keeps the thread from slipping out of the needle while you're hand sewing. I don't do this. If the thread slides out of the needle, I just rethread it--and it doesn't happen that often.

I usually but my ending on the bottom of the quilt. Never end in a corner, how would you miter it then.
I learned to put bind on and miter it and end it from Kaye Woods 6 hour quilt book.
It takes practice and go slow. You'll get the hang of it.

simple quilter

Bought a small Elmers glue and used it to glue the binding on the back.
It works great but sure wish I had that metal tip for a finer line.
This will be my method from now on. Love it. Ironing it makes it stick really well. The small bottle has a smaller tip than the larger bottle.

Assuming you are talking abut continuous binding, I NEVER put the end on the corner because the corner is already bulky enough. Here is one video that shows the tricky method of a seamless binding. It takes a little getting used to but works fabulously:
