How or do you label your quilts?

I use the fabric that that you run through a printer and make a border and type in the information on a program on my computer. Print it off and then Iron on with fusible tape and then hand sew it around the edge on the back of the quilt. Now, I have also used the same material or washed muslin, a fine permanent marker, and neatly written the information on the label, then sewed it on the back of the quilt. I put the name of the quilt, when and where it was completed, and my name and birth date. I usually iron on with a small bit of fusible tape and then either machine or hand stitch them on the back of my quilts. Just started quilting 2 1/2 years ago and I think I am on my 20th quilt. Love to quilt!!!!

I have an embroidery machine and made a label that I sewed on my back. I thought I could easily embroider right on the backing before sandwiching it with the top and batting. I also gave a little info, like the class I took, the teachers name and the location. Of course the year and my name. I read where one lady "signs" her quilt. I can do this with my embroidery machine but she signs it then goes over her signature embroidering the outline stitch by hand. Thought it would be cool for someone to see your penmanship generations from now.

I picked up a pkg of brand new hankerchiefs and cut those in 4th. only have tohem part of it!!:-)

I usually use a piece of fabric from the quilt top to make my label.
Using a marking pencil or pen (the kind that will wash away) I write who the quilt is going to; my name the month and year it was completed and where I live. Then embroidery over that. The labels are then hand sewen on the quilt. Wish my Mother would have done that on her quilts. I've created labels for her quilts, but it's not the same.

I pay sewnsewer2 here on the board to machine embroider mine!

I have used several different ways -
1 - Pigma pen and write all pertinent info on the back (Name of quilt, to who, pieced by, quilted by and year is the basic)
2 - Pre made labels that are sold by the panel
3 - Stamped labels using special fabric ink
4 - Using my embroidery machine
There are so many options and ideas out there.

I free motion zig zag the name of the quilt, my name, and the year onto a coordinating piece of fabric. I attach that to the back, and THEN I start quilting. My quilting goes thru the label, and it verifies that that is the label with correct info for that quilt. Perhaps you have read that nice quilts are stolen, and the APB's are put out for them. This way, that quilt is embedded with my info!!
