How Do You Make A LIGHTWEIGHT Quilt?

How do you make a :LIGHT WEIGHT quilt? I haven't ever seen lightweight batting.

Thermore (Theromore?) is a lightweight batting. You can even use a flannel sheet for batting or no batting at all for a summer weight quilt.

Same thing I would have suggested - -

Top and flannel or flannel sheet backing

Top, flannel, and backing

Top and (ordinary) cotton or cotton sheet for the backing - I remember my Grandma B made some of those

Top, thin batting (have to look for it), and backing

I suppose that - technically - a quilt is three layers -

But, as far as I know, there is no law that says that a cover or coverlet has to be any more than one layer!

We used to call those 'summer quilts'

Quilters Dream makes a thin batting called "Request." You can find it in cotton and polyester. Then there is the Cathedral Window pattern that uses no batting.

For a very light summer coverlet I have used seersucker either pieced or not with no batting at all. For a slightly heavier one you could use flannel instead of batting.

My son lives in southern FL and I just quilt without any batting. He loves having them without the weight.

I made a summer quilt last year with out batting and found that it wrinkled easy and did not seem to have enough body. I am making another one this year and am going to put flannel in the center. I tried it and it seem to have have a nice feel to it and should still be light weight.

I have two "summer quilts" my grandmother made (in the '40s?) and they have the top and a muslin back - no batting. They are great for a light weight cover.

there are lots of lightweight battings on the market- there are lightweight poly's- wool is a nice lightweight, lofty batting; some people use just a layer of light muslin- instead of batting.
