At one point I had a Bernina sewing machine, and just LOVED the foot/bobbin storage case.
Now that I have a Baby Lock, I want to be able to organize my feet, but cant seem to wrap my brain around what would work best. So please share... Are your feet all nicely organized somehow? Are they simply jumbled together in a container? Somewhere in the middle of those 2 extremes? Sorcha (Queen of the "Oh that needs to be in a container somehow" set) |
Mine are in an organizer I keep by my machine that holds small rulers, pens, pencils, scissors, and rotary cutters.
Right now mine are just either in the little thingy (like my technical term) on the front of my machine. Tho some are haphazardly thrown in a drawer on my sewing table ... I need help too lol
I have a little storage box that has 9 drawers in it. I store them in that... I found it at a thriftstore.
It is only about 4" tall and 6 or 7" wide... perfect for all of my feet except the walking foot :D:D:D |
little tackle box thingy. it kind of looks like an overgrown daily pill organizer.
I have had them all tossed togheter in a box.. but recently got on a organzing zpree, because honesly , some of the feet I could not remermber what they were for...
I bought some tool organziners. I bought about 10 of these things. I have one for buttons, one for sequins, one for beads, etc, and one for sewing feet... The size of the " squares " are changable by little dividers that slide in and out. making the squares longer. I made labels for all my feet and taped the label into the bottom of each square. I love it... so far it's the best thing I have done in my sewing room!!! |
I have a custom fitted box that Janome provided. I love it!
I have a small tackle box for my feet and needles. It's cheaper to look in the fishing aisle than the craft aisle. Same brand, practically same style a few dollars less. :)
I keep all my feet in ice cube tray compartments in a drawer next to my machine. I have them in numerical order so they are easy to find when I need them.
Tackle boxes are really nice!
I have a plastic storage box with a hinged lid and 32 compartments. I store each foot in its own with a typed card that tells me what the foot is for and replacement #. It holds my Janome and Brother parts and a few old Singer treadle parts. I made a wide elastic band to go around because the top opened once and they all dropped on the floor. Never again.
My Viking Sapphire has a compartment on the back part of the sewing bed that opens up. It holds like 10 feet and bobbins, all in their own little slot. I LOVE that the did this.

I use my tea chest, the ones that came with each machine are right there with the machine in tool box

I use a two-sided fishing tackle box. Using a labeler, I made numbers for the cubbies. After I placed a foot in a hole, I made a corresponding a number/label with the name of the foot that I put on the lid. Sometimes I buy a foot for a specific project and umpteen projects later can't remember what the darn foot was called.
I decided the explanation was harder to understand than a visual. I hope this helps. The tackle box I just bought for my daughter's sewing feet has colored hinges. |

All these ideas are wonderful! I especially like the labels idea, otherwise I'll never know what the foot is!
I use the little weekly pill boxes. There are seven compartments and they travel well to classes also. They also have the boxes that have 28 compartments for pills. They hold most of the feet except the walking foot.

I have all of mine in a small plastic case used by fishermen for their lures.
I have an older Bernina white tool box with dividers, etc. I keep mine in there along with the small descriptive sheet that came with each foot.
I store mine in plastic boxes for matchbook cars.
Bought mine at Walmart...I don't know if they still sell them. |
I have my extra feet in what is probably a jewelry travel case with clear plastic pockets.
However, an idea a class mate at a quilting class, of course, we is to keep her feet together with each foot in a small plastic bags and then used a single ring holding them together ... and then keeps them together in a cute little storage bag she made. Each little plastic bag was labeled. I'm going to use her idea together with my jewelry travel case. ali |
Didn't Babylock feet come in any kind of a case? Try a craft box (with repositionable dividers?) maybe in the beading section?
I also saw a case of heavy fabric recently at LQS for feet. |

You might try a crafts store that sells beads. There are so many options for storing beads. Also try the aisle where the embroidery floss and perle cotton thread is sold. One more idea is to ask the clerk or associate where else they might have storage containers for small items.
Walmart sells a labeler with tape that is pretty affordable and looks very neat and organized. I have labeled all the storage containers in my studio with one. I do suggest that you use the white tape. The clear does not work for me because the background shows through and it's hard to read. |

Mine are in the litlle plastic box that came with the machine and all the feet were included in the price.
I have separate boxes for the different types of sewing I do. There's a box of machine embroidery things and the machine embroidery foot is in there. There's a box for my quilting things and the quilting feet are in there. Then there's a box for regular sewing, and that's where all the rest of the machine feet live.
Mine are resting more or less comfortably under the foot tray in the machine. Except the walking foot. I think I will get an accessory box to keep all the goodies handy.
Sew many great ideas here! Thanks!
Organize???? what's that mean?????? Actually, I toss all my feet in a small wicker basket I got for $.10 at a thrift store. Works for me!
Joann's has some small craft boxes that work great and I have one for each of my machines (5)

I HAVE A CLEAR PLASTIC BOX THAT I GOT AT HARBOR FREIGHT WITH SEVERAL COMPARTMENT IN IT. JUST OPEN THE LID AND THERE THEY ALL ARE. ON TOP OF THE LID..JUST OVER THE SQUARE COMPARTMENT I WRITE WHAT FOOT IT IS. WORKS GREAT.
All in the front of my machine.
I have the feet that came with my machine and my quarter inch piecing foot in the storage compartment of my machine. I keep other feet that I have purchased in the top drawer of my sewing machine cabinet. I leave them in the packaging with the instructions because some of them I use so seldom that I need the pictures/instructions. I have a list of all my feet in the bottom of my sewing machine compartment. The LQS I occasionally take classes at is very good about telling us ahead of time about any specialty feet we might need in the class. If I need to take another foot I can just toss it into my sewing basket.
