How do you see down a Dresden?
 

I finished sewing together my 20 Dresden blades and now need to sew it to a backing block. What's the best way to do this?

Very interesting question; I'm curious also.

When I made some, I used Eleanor Burns pattern. They are easy to applique. I used a blanket stitch and auditioned different thread till I found what I liked. When I stitched, I stitched the straight stitch in the background and the horizontal stitch into the fabric. I kept the needle as close to the dresden petal as I could. Then I attached the circle/center the same way using very thin fusible interfacing. Place the fusible with the glue side facing the right side(pretty side) of the fabric and sew a tight stitch completely around. I used pinking shears and trimmed 1/8" around the sewn line. The I cut a one inch slit in the center of the fusible and turned the circle right side out. Made sure it was completely turned, then ironed it flat on my applique pressing sheet before attaching it to the center of the dresden and ironing it in place.

Can you show some pictures of your dresdens? It would help with ideas.

I appliqued my dresdens to the backing fabric by hand, but I guess it could be done by machine, using a narrow zig zag stitch. I trimmed away the backing behind the dresdens to make it easier to hand quilt.

I think I would use my machine and do a blanket stitch.

You could center it on your block then sew 1/8 or 1/4" inside each "blade". Then glue or use fusible to place center and do a blanket stitch or satin or zigzag around center circle.

I did mine just like AlienQuilter said except is used invisible thread.

I appliqued mine on as a quilt-as-you-go. That finished the whole block. Small zigzag on outside, straight stitching on seams.

I did mine by hand using embroidery floss and a blanket stitch.
