How do you store your quilting rulers?
I currently store my rulers inside a cabinet my husband made for me. He put two nails (one high, one low) on one side of the inside of the cabinet. Now that I have more rulers, I am finding this burdensome as the ruler I want is always the one furthest in. Plus I now have too many. Looking for creative ways people store their rulers.

I have a wooden tray with grooves in it that I purchased at a quilt show that a lot of them fit in and the rest are on hooks on the wall. Some I keep in small fabric purses if they are a group and they stay with the book that goes with them

I have used one of these racks for rulers. It fits right on the desk.
https://www.containerstore.com/s/off...uctId=10001488 I also have one of these on the back of the door. Mine has smaller peg board and the rulers hang on binder clips from hooks. https://www.containerstore.com/s/whi...&q=door%20rack |

I hang mine on S-hooks on my closet shelves in front of my batting scraps/fabric. They are easy to slide around if I need to get to something behind them. I can fit 2-3 rulers per hook.

You might see if a belt closet circle will work for you. You can just slide the ruler you want off the circle.

I have peg board and hooks on the wall...... works great.

When I am through using them for a quilt, I store mine under a bedroom dresser. Crazy huh?

I just showed this ruler holder. I bought two from Clyde’s Workshop online. They come ready to hang on the wall, with a cubby hole with a door and places to hang scissors and rotary cutters besides your rulers. Holds many rulers!

My ruler holder is an "in and out" mail metal one and also one similar to Rhonda's that is plastic I had on hand and never use anymore. I use a deep fabric drawer for smaller ones and specialty templets that fits into a cubby hole unit.

If I bought a ruler to make a pattern I keep that ruler with the book or pattern. The rest I had on a 4 x 8 peg board. I'm moving so right now all of them are in bins.

I have the Ikea wall mounted magazine holder for my bigger rulers and the small ones I use command hooks for the square ones on the side of my cabinet, for all the odd shaped ones, I have a scarf hanger, it’s a metal hoop with a hanger, and I just slide ruler I want round to the opening to get it.

For 30 years my shop has been a mess. I just got done redesigning my work area. I sew on a large oversized wooden office desk. To my right is a large folding table. Below is a tote and 1 plastic drawer unit. Above the folding table hubby mounted a full sheet of peg board. Everything I could think of is on the peg board. When cleaning I found so many duplicate items. I LOVE this set up and hopefully I wont damage any more of my rulers. Over the years while working I have knocked them off my cutting table and cracked them. Also......brought down 2 pieces of furniture to help me store items. One was a entertainment Center for quilt fabric and my machines. The other is a used dresser that sits at the end of the folding table. So I wouldn't have to look at the unpainted back I took scrap fabric and made a quilted storage panel so that I can place my manual and other reference books in along with being able to pin blocks I'm working on in between jobs.

In theory on my peg board but in reality they are all over the place :D

I use the same office sorter that RhondaK uses. Mine came from Goodwill for $1.49.

Before I put up nails to hang them on one side of a cabinet, I use to put them in an old napkin holder. Of course, that took up counter space, so it wasn't ideal.

I have a slotted wooden holder, probably similar to mic-pa's. It's 12"x4"x1" and has 5 backward slanted slots. Since your husband made your cabinet, perhaps he could custom make you a similar holder to suit your rulers.
I love mine because you can remove/replace any ruler without disturbing any others. |
I have a dresser drawer dedicated to rulers, plastic templates (in a box), rotary cutters + blades, and smaller cutting mats. No, it is not the most efficient way to store them, but it will do until I get the pegboard I want!

I currently have a peg board with hooks. As you said the one I want is always the one on the bottom of the pile. I am in the process of redoing some of the storage in my sewing room. It is starting to look like a hoarder lives in there. A total mess. I just added a dresser for storage. Next step is my rulers. I bought these https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40070185/ at Ikea. Bekvam spice shelves. They come in 2 different lengths. I am going to hang them on the peg board and just have the rulers in them. I have seen it done on Pinterest.

I have two of those slotted boards and of course I can't pass up a ruler. So they are full. I need to weed out some not in use.

Somebody posted somewhere an idea to use a closet bar and pant hangers to hang the rulers. Or maybe wire hangers and chip clips.
|
I made a large tote with sections and pockets, the larger ones are on a shelf or some are on nails.

If you go to "home" and click on "Mission Organization" there's a post labeled "Ruler Hangers." I love this idea and plan to use it when I remodel my sewing room next spring. Thank you Feffertim!

I use this. It is on top of some drawers https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/...-art-60312715/

I have mine behind my sewing room door and they hang from Command strips, works great and out of the way...
|
I love my grooved rack, but it is filling up... may get a second one.
|
I put mine under our 8x10' area rug. They lay flat and are out of the way. My cutting mat is also stored under the rug.

I hang all but 2 that I use all the time and they lay flat on my sewing table. The rest hang below my window on a board my husband made for them.

I use a scrapbook page plastic tote to hold my rulers that are 14" x 14" or smaller and store it under my sewing table. The tote holds quite a few rulers (I'd say at least 15 or so). My long rulers, I stand up between the corner of my cutting table and a bookcase. (The other "stuff" on my table keeps them from falling over...LOL).
