How do you store your strings?
 

I just ironed a ton of strings. Time for a string bling maybe. Anyhow, I have my own system of storing all the rest of the pieces like the squares, strips, bricks etc. I've been tossing strings in a bin and waving at them occasionally or diving in and sorting when I need some strings. However, after taking on the task of ironing and wanting to organize them I am drawing a blank as what to do with them. I've thought of rolling them, but not to thrilled with the idea. Any suggestions as to the taming of strings? Would love some ideas. Thanks my quilting friends.

I use mixed sizes of strings..I toss them in a cardboard box as I collect them while cutting other projects. I have never ironed them prior. I let them fall as they may when using them, I iron each after attaching it to prepare for the next one

I have mine in a shoe box.

I lay them flat in a rectangular basket.

When I actually iron my strips, I tend to leave them hanging on the backs of chairs or my Gold's Gym that I just had to have years ago. Makes a nice holder for quilts/blocks in progress. Or I'll fold them in a sort of half fold/half roll and place them in a shoe box.

Those fold up wooden clothes dryers with all those dowels on them should work well? Then fold it together and slide in behind something and the strings should stay ironed.

Where do you find those clothes dryer things? A friend of mine has a couple that she uses for this purpose but she says she's had then since the world began.

I bought one at wallmart.

Amazon has the wooden clothes drying racks too.

I think I'll just bag like colors together and accordian fold the strings in the bags. Then it's back in the bin they go.

Really narrow ones like selvages I let accumulate until I have a bag full. Then I stitch them end to end while watching tv and wind into a ball as I go. No need to iron. I have 4 the size of large grapefruit now. Maybe I'll crochet them into a mat or a bag.

I like that idea too! Back to the waste bin I go to retrive the little guys.

Great idea about saving the selvages! I save my strings by color, folding them accordian-style in zip-lock bags.

In a drawer.

The ones I want to use later are in a bag. The extras are in the garage to be used for tying up yard trash and such. They work great and are better than string.

How about just hang them across a hanger? Sort by light/dark or colors.

After they are ironed hang them on a couple of coat hangers. Doesn't take much room.

I hang my 2.5" strips on a spare door with a door hook on it. For a lot of strips, use two door hangers with a dowel across them. That holds a lot of strips.
