I found this block and fell in love with it but how can I enlarge it so the finished block size would be 12 "

Do you have a quilt software program ? Or try taking it to a print shop and enlarging the pattern

I've found a very simple way to enlarge or shrink the patterns. Just use a calculator and divide the current size into the finished size. That is the % you have to enlarge or shrink it on a regular copy machine.
For example: The pattern is 10 inches, you want it 12 inches: 12 divided by 10 = 120% to enlarge If your current block is 12 inches, and you want it 10 inches: 10 divided by 12 = 83% to shrink it. |
Print out the block and measure one of the sides. Since this is a pdf file, it will print fine. Measure one of the sides of the block on the printout. Divide the desired block size (12.5) by the side measurement and multiply the result by 100. Then take the printout to a copy machine and use the resulting math to increase the size of the copy. For instance, if the side measures 8.5 inches. 12.5/8.5=1.47x100=147% copier increase size. This should end up very close. Some copiers may need some adjustment to the percentage.

I would print the pages take them to a copy shop (we have a local one that prints blue prints) and have them englarge it. The person working there SHOULD know the math so you don't have to do it! :)
I did this when I made the (stupid) decision to actually use the templates for Denyse Schmidt pattern Drunk Love! It did work though! |
If you plan to reproduce the block on a regular copy machine (or in a printer) it will be difficult because the largst paper size many will take is 11x17.
|
if it is a 10" finished, you could put a border around it and make it 'float'...or do the math :)
