I am making a lap quilt 54" x 60" and I am just wanting to do a large 9 patch. couple's info in middle with picture on fabric and in the corners the 4 Childrens info and their children. Please help I am new at quilting but I have always followed a pattern and this is the first one I am trying to "design "myself. I have to get this done by the 1st of June. Nothing like waiting and then trying to get everything done

Graphic paper helps. each grid = 1 inch of quilt design.

I just sent you a PM. Wish you lived a little (lot) closer!

I always draw my quilts out on graph paper. How large will the pictures be? This will determine the size of your 9 patch blocks. How large a 9 patch were you thinking of? Are you going to put a border on it? For example 4 12inch blocks across would make 48inches. A 3 inch border would make 54inch width. A 12inch finished size 9 patch uses 4inch blocks, finished size. A row of 3 15inch finished blocks would finish at 45inches and you would need 4.5 inch border to make 54inches. All these decisions and things to figure out. I love doing this stuff. If you want a picture in the center, 3 blocks across would work better. 5 blocks down would work with a pic in the center. That would finish at 75 inches though. Can be complicated.
Have I thoroughly confused you now? Sorry I got so detailed but I like planning quilts. |

I have no idea what colors you had in mind. To make your design with middle and corner info/pictures, the quilt would be best as a square. this one has 9" 9-patches, 1.5" sashing, 1.5" border 1 and 2.0" border 2. It comes out to approximately 58" square. Hope this helps.

you are so wonderful....look at those pix...I always opt for EQ...not sure where the graph paper is when I need it...

I see what you mean now, the entire quilt is just 9 patches.
