How to find fabric online?
 

I sometimes find fabric at a manufactor's site that doesn't sell retail. How do I find it online to order? I live in a very rural area and have to drive 2 hours to get to a quilt store. While I love going to buy there, it is not always an option when I'm in a quilting mood. Therefore the 'online' question.

Any suggestions on how to find a fabric I've found on a site so I can order?

I just google the name of the fabric, with the reference number if I have it, and the designer name. The places that sell it will come up in the search results.

I too live in a rural area so I understand how you feel. I do online shopping at fabric.com and Joan's .com I just have not been able to buy fabric at wholesale. Hope this helps.

I do the same as joe's mom, then I will try pintrest or Etsy and try to follow up there. What happens a lot is that the name will come up but the site will have sold out of the particular fabric that I want. But if I absolutely have to have it, it usually is for sale somewhere.

Yep. I found a fabric that had been discontinued 5 years. Needed just a little to finish, but had to buy a yard to get it.

Hi Dray. Can I suggest joining the Fab Shop Hop? They send you around to all kinds of different online stores that sell fabric and other quilty type necessities (yes...we Need them!). You can then not only shop, but register to win great prizes. I have just started and haven't won anything, but found some super online stores that have quickly become book marked as favorites.

You could also try www.quiltshops.com. You can search 225 quilt shops at one time. I have found certain fabrics many times using this site.

I've found I need to be creative and flexible with search terms when looking for something online. If you're looking at the manufacturer's site, usually they have the fabric sku listed, and you put that in the search engine. If you get multiple hits for things other than fabric, add the word "fabric" to the sku. If you don't know the sku, use the manufacturer's name, the designer's name, and the fabric line name. Or remove the designer's name and use just the manufacturer and fabric line. Try different combinations of the information you have. If you don't know the names or you're not getting any results, you can oftentimes find the fabric you're looking for by describing the fabric (i.e. "pink floral on white background fabric") and then click "images", and the search engine will pull up images with that description.

Quite often the manufacturers websites have a list of retailers who carry their fabrics. Also, join the ( FabShophop) it is free, a monthly ( game) where you visit between 89-120+ quiltshops on line, find a bunny & register for free prizes. It's a great place to find many different shops carrying many different fabrics at a wide range of prices and shipping policies. Free patterns, all kinds of benefits. They also have a fabric search feature.

Check out Keepsake Quilting and Connecting Threads - great sites and they have super fabric and it arrives very quickly. Good prices, also. They take credit cards and help if there is ever an issue.
