How to finish quilt

1 Attachment(s)
I finished the blocks today, but im not sure if i should add something in between them or just sew the blocks straight to each other, pros or cons to either choice? This quilt is for my kiddo, so i just want it to look nice for him

dunster 11-24-2015 09:08 PM

I think you could go either way. If you want the quilt to be larger, you could add sashing. Your quilt is going to be beautiful.

BETTY62 11-24-2015 09:16 PM

With or without sashing, your quilt is going to be awesome.

I did a search on Pinterest and Google for LeMoyne star quilts. There are lots of great pictures with lots of ideas! I like the sashings. They frame the stars and really makes them stand out

Bree123 11-24-2015 11:02 PM

It's nice as it, but I think it would look really sharp with some narrow black sashing.

DOTTYMO 11-24-2015 11:04 PM

I agree with Dunster. Decide on size of quilt as to whether you add sashing and / or borders.

Homespun 11-25-2015 05:18 AM

Gorgeous blocks! Will be beautiful whatever you decide.

KenmoreGal2 11-25-2015 05:59 AM

It's very nice. I'm agreeing with those who say your desired finished size should determine what you do next. If you add sashing and make the quilt bigger, it will highlight the stars nicely. However if you keep it the size it is now, those stars make some interesting secondary patterns. Either way, it's a winner!

P.S. Please update this thread with your choice. Plus a picture of the finished quilt if you can....

If you use sashing the same color as the background, your blocks will look like they're floating.

ManiacQuilter2 11-25-2015 06:24 AM

Usually I will add sashing so that if my points are not exact, it doesn't show as much. It also helps add more width and length to a quilt.

Fieryphoenix 11-25-2015 09:04 AM

Hum, thanks for all the thoughts, i think im gong to sew the blocks to each other and maybe add a border if needed. Thanks again!

cjsews 11-25-2015 09:25 AM

The good thing about adding sashing is you would not have the seams to matches up on the star points

Your blocks are beautiful. I might suggest that a black sashing with corner stones of some of your fabrics that are in your blocks would be nice. I am sure whatever you decide it is going to be lovely.

annette1952 11-25-2015 12:38 PM

It will look good both ways but I think I prefer sashing on it. Maybe a black sash

rryder 11-25-2015 01:21 PM

You're getting an interesting 3-d block effect as a secondary pattern that probably would be lost if you use sashing. That said, you really could go either way, just depends on what kind of effect you want to get.

quiltmouse 11-25-2015 01:36 PM

Whatever you decide, that will be very pretty.

Texas_Sue 11-26-2015 06:04 AM

I really love your blocks. I'm with everyone else, with or without sashing this will be a beautiful quilt.

Personally, I would add sashing and a border. To me sashing just makes a statement on its own.

NIICHMOM 11-26-2015 08:45 AM

I love the 8 pt star no matter whate pattern you are using, and I use the star often... but I usually put sashing or a more
simple block in between. It all depends on how large you want it... but you are doing a great job.

tessagin 11-26-2015 08:58 AM

Ditto here!!

My thoughts too. Without a light sashing, will the points touch when put together? You've created some beautiful blocks for a fortunate kiddo.

What you have going is great! I do like this idea a lot though. Lucky child either way.

I really like this idea of using the same colour sashing as the background, but probably would not have thought of it.

Stunning, just stunning! I'm sure whatever you decide, it will be wonderful. Please show off the finished quilt!

I absolutely agree....narrow black sashing

fish92241 12-04-2015 11:12 AM

Beautiful quilt. I think sashing would showcase each star and make them stand out.

nannyrick 12-04-2015 11:51 AM

Love it, either way. Great job.

I'm thinking the same...

I like the idea of a black sashing around the stars. You can cut some strips & lay them between the blocks, stand back & review it & see what a sashing would look like before you sew it on. It's going to be a beautiful quilt. Anything with stars is a favorite of mine.
