I like the laundry hamper idea - or a large laundry basket - tie big ribbons around it -

Why wrap it at all? Just fold it nicely and tie with ribbon. I might try to find a nice basket instead of a laundry basket.

I make simple drawstring bags to gift my quilts in.

I went to a wedding where someone had made the Bride & Groom a beautiful quilt, and they had folded it so that the main pattern of the quilt was displayed and it also had their names and wedding date embroidered onto the quilt. It was beautiful! It would be great to have the large bag/pillowcase to store the quilt in for the couple.

If I were going to use a basket I would get a cloth lined basket with handles on the end like the old fashioned kind or check with some bridal shops or cleaners who specialize in bridal cleaning and see if they will sell you a wedding dress box. Then put a big bow on it.

I find laundry baskets to be more useful than "nice" baskets.

I use a beautiful recyclable bag.

I agree with a pillowcase and you could still box it or place it in a basket and shrink wrap like a gift basket.

Furoshik is Japanese wrapping cloth. It is very handy when wrapping odd shaped items. I use this when I don't have a pillowcase when storing my linens. http://furoshiki.com/techniques/

If you want out of the box, then a tube would be in order.
You can get them in a any size / length and you can wrap it like a candy.
