How to Hang Wedding Guest Book Quilt

2 Attachment(s)
The Wedding Guest Book Quilt has been quilted (finally!) and now it's time to add the label, binding and hanging sleeve. I'm using dark purple (Kona) fabric for binding. I've never made a wall hanging quilt before and want to see what options you guys think would work the best for this quilt. I watched a video for adding corner triangles sleeves and then using a wooden dowel inserted into the triangles. This seems to work for a small wall hangings but not sure how it would work for my quilt. My Longarm quilter said she just adds a long sleeve all the way across (take an 8" piece of fabric and fold in half) sewn under the binding then inserts a rod that can be hung somehow!

Do you guys have any recommendations or ideas for the best way to hang this quilt? I really value your input and look forward to what you guys have to say!

I've attached a photo of of the front and back of the quilt top.

The finished quilt top size is 59" X 76"
The Quilt weighs 2.6 pounds

Thanks so much for all your help.

It is quite large, so a sleeve that goes across it would probably work best. I would want to see if they had a wall that could accommodate a fancy curtain rod and brackets before deciding on what method to use. It is big enough that they might like it better as a couch throw to cuddle under. Cute quilt!

On very large quilts, when I want a sleeve that goes full width, I make it in sections with a break in the middle and/or 1/3 the way across to give the option of hanging/supporting it better/stronger

I agree with your longarmer.

wait--are you wanting to know how to hang for the wedding reception or once they get it home? If at home, I'd say with a round curtain rod and brackets on the wall and a full width sleeve. If at the reception, the hall might have a way to hand with the sleeve--otherwise you might consider purchasing a photo backdrop stand--they are about $50 on amazon and sturdy enough for this(plus afterward you have a great stand to use to photo your quilts!).

If it's going to be hung most of the time, I like to use cafe curtain rods. They are small and only stick out from the wall an inch at most. I like to put two smaller sleeves with an opening in the center for middle support. I also like to put a wide sleeve at the bottom to run a rod that just hangs. It helps keep the quilt straight on the wall and small finials are on all 4 corners.

I have used this tutorial for one of my quilts.

I also have a double drapery rod with clips to use. Some rod lengths need a center support bracket so you need to leave a space open in the sleeve.

A favorite site for more ideas.

I agree with Tartan that a pretty curtain rod with brackets would work. A sleeve all the way across the quilt would work the best to hold that large of a quilt. Very nice quilt and the couple will love it. Good luck on your decision and let us know what you end up doing

I too agree that the sleeve would be your best option. Pressing it well and putting it on a sleeve will show off this beauty so nicely. A lovely quilt made in love for someone special.

You ladies are amazing! I knew I could count on your knowledge and resources to help me with this! Thank you so much for all your advice and online resources to guide me. I'm leaning towards one long sleeve the width of the quilt. Will send photos once it's done.

Love all of you! Stay safe!
