ok - need to explain. bought what I thought was a bag of scraps at GW today, real cheap. Well they are sort of scraps - but they appear to be the beginning of someones project. each strip is about 36" long and about 3 1/4" wide (would be 6+ " if opened up. some patterns there are a lot of - some only one or two or three etc. As you can see they were sewed into a "point" at each end.

I really don't want to spend hours ripping out seams to open them up. Any suggestions on how I can use these? What do you suppose they were making with them?

i would make it easy & lay that sewn seam down on my cutting mat....and chop it off with the rotary cutter!
then once opened up..you can cut to whatever size you want need.

I agree with Kimmie. Cut off the ends and go for it.

Agree with the other two that I would conveniently trim them with my rotary cutter and then do any scrappy strip quilt you want with them!

Even with the seams cut off they'll be pretty good sized "scraps", so that's what I'd do, too.

They aren,t bias strips for binding are they? Just wondering, they angled ends and the width makes me wonder

i don't think so b/c all edges are sewed up - can't even find where they handstitched the strip closed!

maybe they were making headbands or waistbands...

My guess would be some sort of tie-back or belts of some sort.. bow ties for stuffed animals..

just_the_scraps_m'am 02-03-2011 02:29 PM

i was thinking ties for dresses {around waist} but if there's more than 2...who knows...
looks like there's some good "i spy" stuff there!
have fun!

I would cut off the ends and the sides just enough that they weren't sewn anymore. Looks like some good fabrics there! Purse handles perhaps?

Those look like neck coolers. I would cut the ends off, and rotory cut the seams open.

wow.....I have all those fabrics in my stash!!!! usually I see one or two fabrics in someones stash that I can call ''mine'' but not this time.....have fun whatever you do!!

Draft-dodgers, for doors or windows? I agree with others, rotary cut away the seam and use the remainder for strips or blocks.

For speed, I would stack those babies up ( a few at a time) with edges lined up, and rotary cut the seam off and the fold too, and make 2.5" strips for one of the many jelly roll patterns!

They look like the neck coolers.
