I adjust the height of my regular ironing board, and angle it slightly toward my sewing area. Since I have a chair on casters, all I have to do is turn my chair around a little and the ironing board is right there. No jumping up and down!

you know, i usually do end up working up a sweat without realizing it...maybe thats why!!!!

Have you tried the old typewriter table on wheels? You might find one on Craig's list. I had two left over from the old days. I use one for pressing and the other holds thre fabric when I do PPing. i keep a box fastened on the edge with duck tape for scraps or snippets for other projects.

I like the mat that reverses to ironing surface to keep at little table by machine.

I too have made one from a tv tray. I just throw a small towel over it.

You've gotten a lot of good suggestions. One I've just started using is pressing with a small wooden press I got at the LQS. Then when the block is done, I press the whole block. Lots of my friends swore by this and I finally tried it. It does work good for me.

I have the ironing board close by so I am forced to get up. Sometimes, I place the table-top board on the sewing table and just scootch over to it.

I covered a bolt board (the cardboard that bolt fabric is wrapped on) with flannel. Keep it on a small table w/iron and press without having to jump up and down (although it is good exercise----so they say). Ha. I also chain piece and do a bunch at a time. It saves time, too.

I'm almost finished my stinkin' French braid quilt top (as soon as I figure out how to make the right side the same length as the left, I can put the final borders on and VOILA, she is finished), but, during braid construction, I had to get up and press each little addition to the braid. I chose to consider it exercise and it didn't bother me to do it. Having said that, I'll tell you that I would not want to do that with every quilt. (Too much exercise can kill ya!)
