Mine says 15k for that series of #s when I look up the serial #.
What does the 'k' mean? Is it because it is a treadle, because it was made in Scotland, or something else entirely?

"K" means she was made in Scotland...Kilbowie

Now how do i go about cleaning her up? I read in my hours of researching, a car wax,..... nothing abusive or with alcohol .
I have a man that does wood working, going to see what he would charge me to help fix the front panel.

~grin~ Infectious bug, isn't it?? ;) :lol: Billy posted a tutorial on cleaning machines that's very detailed and good... If they run well after being oiled, I just do a good wipe down with Murphy's Oil Soap and then give her a good coat of TR-3... Pretty baby! Hope your guy can fix the front the way you want it!!

I've learned not to count on what the manuals that come with the machines say! I once bought a treadle, by the attachments that were with her...(they were worth more than I paid for the whole machine and cabinet!) There was also a book with the attachments, and I was VERY excited...it was for a Singer 115...however...the machine was a Wheeler & Wilson D9... :lol: I sent the manual to a friend that had a 115, but no original manual.

The cabinet you want to have fixed is called the "Art Deco" cabinet, made just for Singer. Many had an ink well and place for a pen in left top drawer & some even had a narrow drawer top right just for stationery - the idea was to use it not only for sewing, but also as a lady's writing desk. This is the cabinet Mom had that I now have - also in need of refinishing - going to tackle it myself someday.

Yes my cabinet has the ink well you described, didn't know thats what it was until I read your post. Makes perfect sense.

I picked up a 201-2 and a 15-91 in the "Art Deco" cabinet a couple of weeks ago. The 201-2 was in a mahogany cabinet I cleaned the machine and sanded down the cabinet new stain and varnish looks nice. The 15-91 in the "Blond" cabinet that I have to do some work on the finish and clean up the machine. They both sew very good.
