Those that I made for my grandsons did not last too long. They drug them around everywhere and HAD to be washed often.

If I had a before and after pic of my son's favorite blanky you would be soooooooo grossed out!

He's 18 now. Big strapping young man these days. I think he still had to have it in his grubby little paws at the age of ten(only while sleeping of course)

It was really cute had lambs and bunny rabbits and kittens...

After being drug eveywhere under the sun, continuously chewed on and washed every other day it turned into something like a tattered gray kleenex. Seemed like every week or two I was stitching up a whole new crop of rips and tears.

It's finally go e now and he's all grown up. (sniffle)

It was a crib blanket from the store. A homemade quilt might have lasted longer and taken the abuse with dignity. Lol!

i just put new binding on a twin quilt i made for a grdsn when he was about 2. soo that was 9 yrs ago. it was made out of material from walmart, and had poly batting, and washed weekly. i even repaired one small 2" tear in it. it is quite faded, but is his favorite. even tho he has 6 others, i have made. i tell the kids to use them up, wear them out. i'll make more......

They all seem to have that ONE blanket that they cling to, don't they? : )

I'm 67 years old and I have a quilt that I made when I was 12. Well loved but still usable. And have quilts that my Mother made that are useable. The owner of your quilt must have washed it very often for it to be in a bad condition. Sorry.

My sofa cuddle quilt is now 23-ish years old and well loved. At this time it is pretty faded and the binding edge is starting to deteriorate. Yet it is my favorite piece.

I've wondered this myself! I have two vintage quilts. Both are in excellent condition. One made by DH's grandmother in the 40's (best guess) and really have no history on the other one, except that when it was given to me she said "it's really old"!! Both appear to be hand sewn also!

I have had quilts on my bed for over ten years without much wear on one of the, another one there was one fabric in it that fell apart after several years. The hand quilting in both was still good, no broken threads and binding were about like they were when I started using them.
I don't have pets to be on the beds and I only wash once or twice a year because I have sheet between the quilt and the sleeper.

One year of high school and 6 years of college dorms???

I have one that my husband's great grandmother made. She died in 1912. It had a small damage place in it when I got it and Ijust gently stitched it to keep it from getting torn or from expanding. It is in great condition and looks like it was made with mens shirt material.
