I am a advanced beginner at free motion quilting and I'm doing a new pattern a large loopy flower on a baby quilt. I'm ready to be finished with it but I'm not sure if I have too much unquilted spaces on it. They are up to 6 inches by 4 inches. What is the maximum amount of unquilted space I can have? Thanks

I think it depends on what sort of batting you're using. Cotton wants closer quilting than polyester to keep it all together over time. And the amount of quilting depends on the pattern of your top too - however much will add to the overall effect.

Do you remember what batting it was. Warm and natural doesn't need as much as my poly. Let us know.

It is warm and natural.

quilting depends on your batting!!!
the batting package tells you how much quilting you have to do, some (like mountain mist) you have to have quilting every 2"...others, like some of the warm & naturals you can have up to 10" between quilting, and there are different measurements for each different batting you may try. so it is always important to read the package (before you buy it) so you know if that particular batting is going to work for what you plan to do. |
