How to make a bag
 

Is there a pattern out there to make a bag to put a quilt in it....I want to put the wedding quilt I'm making into a quilted bag instead of wrapping it.....Hope I'm explaining this correct...thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Some people use some of the fabrics in the quilt to make a pillow slip to go with the quilt and put the quilt in that to gift it.

There are many bag patterns out there to make something to put the quilt in. The key will be to make sure it is big enough and has heavy enough straps for the person to use after the fact. I make "bags" to store some of my quilts in when not in use. They are just like a big pillowcase which allows the quilt to be folded flat and it keeps the dust out of them when stored in my cupboard.

There is also what is called a "quillow" which is a pocket sewn into the outside of the back of the quilt which allows the quilt to be folded back into it. Just do a "google" on how to make a quillow.

I always just make matching pillowcases to gift a quilt. It's a great way to store a quilt too and one quick look will tell you what quilt is sitting on the shelf without even opening the pillowcase. If fabric is ever needed to mend the quilt, the pillowcase could easily be cut up as the right fabric would be there.

Suggestion:

Fold the quilt so that you have an idea of how big the bag should be - then measure - it is easier to get the quilt in the bag if it is roomy enough.

You could make a bag with drawstring(s) at the top - sort of a duffel bag effect.

I have made a bag for a quilt before but I just used an online grocery bag. You can make them simple or add a twist with the fabrics.

Here's mine. I make this tote whenever I make a quilt to give as a gift! It's called the Macduff tote.

I usually use the burrito pillow case method and make a coordinating pillow case the quilt will fit into.
