Why not make the "mitered corner" as a block, then attach it like you would a sashing with cornerstones. No need to work with the long strip of piano keys.

so many great ideas... this has been an eye-opening post. You guys are awesome.

I posted a tutorial a few years ago on my easy way to do mitered borders with stripes. I think the title was Easy mitered borders-even with stripes. I use this method putting multiple borders on all quilts. I'll search for the tutorial.

For some reason I am unable to copy and paste the link to the tutorial. It is titled "Easy Mitered Borders-even with stripes"

If it doesn't work out, just applique a butterfly over the corner. Jinny Beyer hss excellent tutorials for striped mitred borders on her website.

Isn't it nice to have a potential problem solved before you get to it! I really like piano key borders and would not have thought about the corner until I reached the 'oops' moment.

I was doing a piano key border one night. Things weren't lining up. It was late at night and I just wanted the quilt finished so I just made a quilt block and put it in the corners. Thanks for the links.

I just make them like any border. I need to remember these ideas when I make another.
Great ideas. |
