How to make a striped HST

I'm working on a pattern that requires a striped HST. What is the best way to do that? I made one and used Fons & Porter's HST ruler to cut out the triangle but it was an extreme waste of fabric as I couldn't use the "tails" formed between each triangle. Am I doing something wrong or is there a better way?

I use Thangles. http://www.thangles.com

It depends on how the stripe is oriented and if you are aiming to match up the stripes in adjacent units. For many of the quilts I make I do have to fussy cut and accept that there will be waste between triangles.

If matching stripes is not an issue, just cut a square in half diagonally. No waste.

Can you provide a photo of the unit, or maybe a link to a photo of the quilt?

When you make HST with a stripe, there is always waste to get them all going in the same directions. Half will be going in one direction and the other will be a 90 degree difference. :(

this is for flying geese but the same premise works for hst's from directional prints http://www.instructables.com/id/How-...ctional-print/

I think the better way is to make a second quilt with those in between triangles. :p

I know some do not care for my method of making HST ( in. Tutes) but i used my method to cut HSTs with striped fabric. Just need to use spray starch to hold the bias edges.

Here's the striped triangle I made for a HST. Sewed my 2 fabrics together to make a strip and then cut it using Fons & Porter triangle ruler. Is there a better way?

&&& Good answer justabitcrazy!!! Maybe what I have to do, 'cept I HATE these things! LOL!!!
