how to make a tablecloth

I want to make a patchwork table cloth, but do not know if it should be two layers or just the top and backing. If three layers what kind of backing should be used? and again thanks to all who have inspired me with pictures and advice. You are my back bone. THANK YOU

I would just use the top & backing. No batting.

I make tablecloths all the time and use a very lightweight cotton batting. One could probably also use flannel. I just like the quilt look.

I use flannel if I have it at home, otherwise just backing, plain or print - depending whether it's to be used reversible or not.

I have made tablecloths both with batting, and without. Either one is fine depending on the look you want. When I have used batting, I have used a light-weight one.

Make the backing of a slightly thicker fabric, fleece, denim, corduroy, even thick double knit so the quilting will show, but no batting
