Me! When I am not busy! What else are you going to do for 8 hours a day?!

Barbm 04-28-2010 11:40 AM

I'm the boss and I say it's a de-stresser for me. Besides I am here about 11 to 12 hours so I am ENTITLED to a break. :)

I come, but really need to limit my time or it would be all play & no work.

I no longer work but Up North is right. I was a programmer and they can monitor the sites you've been on. They can also monitor every single e-mail you send or receive.

I know several people who were laid off with years of service because they went on porn sites, stock market sites, etc.

The fools lost ALL retirement benefits and were laid off with possible criminal charges facing them. One was a director. You would think he would know better. The had a file of every single e-mail and site for 4 years which they used as proof to get rid of him. The part that is even more sad, he was going to retire within a year or two. Instead he ended up with nothing. Due to the tier he was in and the salary he was making he lost at least $4000. a month, + health insurance! His poor wife still worked there for another 3 years and was humiliated.

Get permission before doing something you will regret!

I know a lot of places that do monitor emails and internet surfing, but luckily our company is very liberal. But we only have 6 in the office. My daughter works for a very strict company and does not even have internet. She can only have water at her desk and it has to be in a cup with a tight fitting lid. I can't even meet her for lunch there and sit outside. No one is allowed on the grounds unless it is strictly business.

When I worked if the site wasn't blocked by the company filter program then it was okay to go there. Quilting sites were never blocked. Sport sites were!

Shhhhhht, don't tell. (Actually right now I'm home - vacation day) but yeah - I take a quick look-see from the office at times.

I have to agree with no1jan. Unless it has been approved, don't risk it. My DH was accused of using his computer for non-company business. It took a bit of doing to prove the computer had been used when he was not at the office. So then the company requested he lock his computer at any time he is not using it. It could have been very bad for our family.

It is nice that some of you have lenient supervisors.

I'm here now...shhhhhhhh....LOL! I guess I can be since he's looking at fishing sites.
