How many days should we plan Paducah, Kentucky
 

We are planning an extended trip in September. How many days should we plan to stay in Paducah and see everything. Thanks.

Well, honestly, that kind of depends. First, will you be taking any classes or seminars? Will you be looking just at the quilts in the show, or will you want to shop the vendor area too? Second, how much standing and walking can you do? How many breaks will you need?

I've been to Paducah once and Houston 4 times. I have always stayed the full length of the show. The thing about these huge shows is you can get both physically and visually overwhelmed. I found that after a couple of hours, everything started looking the same, my eyes had glazed over, and I needed to sit and take a break. What I learned to do is spend a couple of hours in the show, take a half hour break, spend a couple hours in the vendor area, take an hour break, then go back to the show. If there was something I found that I liked in the vendor section, I would write down the booth #, what the item was, and the price, and come back later to purchase it, and here's why: Often times I'd chew through my budget and find something I would have rather purchased after I was out of money. Other times I'd find the same product somewhere else for a little less. Sometimes I'd go back to purchase what was on my list and wonder what I'd been thinking.

I can also recommend that you take a back pack, a bottle of water, and some snacks.

Peckish, what good advise. I experience those same "symptoms" of quilt overload when just walking a local or regional quilt show. Good ideas about the shopping area. I am guessing that experience has been a good teacher.

Is there something happening in Sept or are you just going to Paducah?

I don't think there's a show in Sept. So, I'd say 1-2 days would be enough, depending on how much you want to shop! You can spend half a day at the quilt museum for sure. I’d also say 2 days. You want plenty of time to go to Hancock’s, and have a leisurely walk through the museum. There are some good restaurants in the downtown area too.

Quilt in a Day has a shop there but with no quilt show probably not opened. Hancocks store is closed for shopping as of now. A guild member's daughter lives in Paducah and said Hancocks my only open for shopping during quilt shows as they are doing great with online orders and expenses are way down with the building closed to the public. I hope not.

Wow! I have not been to one of the big shows but have been to an expo and I needed the entire 3 days for classes and to just check out the quilts and the vendors. Take your time there will be so much to see and take several days if you have them and just enjoy.

I went to Paducah when the show was not on and two days was plenty. The museum and downtown one day, Hancock's and other quilt stores the next day.

I thought that show was in April, and will t be going on with this virus still going on, I mean if you are talking Sept, maybe by then this virus will be under control and not as bad, but for me I will be staying home still. Be safe
