Does anyone have any idea how many different fabric colorways to use for the D9P. I am planning to use blacks, whites, and reds. Thanks
|
The one I made, I used 9. It was a little busy though.

Oh I like that..too bad my DGS wants red in it LOL

I have used as few as three fabrics and as many as ten.
They are so much fun to make. Its a fast way to make a charity quilt. |

Here is the block layout: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 My last one, all the 5's were a mottled red 2, 4, 6, 8 were a light yellow 1, 3, 7, 9 were I Spy fabrics Do you want to do each block in a different colorway as far as lights and darks in your blacks? It's a fun one to do. The results are endless. Play with it until you see what you want. You could make all the centers the same color (maybe red or black) and do 2, 4, 6, 8 lights and 1, 3, 7, 9 darker colors, or reverse the lights and darks. Maybe play with it on some graph paper. |
I'm doing one right now in B&W. I have 4 differen't blacks and whites and using the red for the center. Works out just fine with 5.

I love the idea of a black, white and red D9P. They make up so nice. I can't wait to see yours.
|
I plan on making one real soon, I'm planning on using lots of small remmants that I don't will go with other fabrics I have. Make it to suit you and it will turn out well.

I made one recently using 4 fabrics/colors. Main 9 patch was black and white and centers were half pink and the other half blue. May in Jersey
|
Mine is a scrap quilt using 4" squares
I held constant the center square to provide some unity. I just keep cutting and sewing. At some point I'll stop and assemble some tops and will post pictures. I'm in charge of my Guild's Charity Day. We'll all be making Fractured 9-Patches, again using scraps, 5" squares, the center one all black solid. I've chosen and fussy-cut loads of fabrics suitable for boys, girls and adult women, ultimately bound for a local Women's Shelter. |
I made one with scraps...but I used one main color(yellow) for 2 blocks in the 9. It caused continuity. Haven't finished it or I'd post a picture.
|
Well, i'm overwhelmed...thanks to everyone for all your ideas and pics...I have some thoughts about arranging now. I have so many combinations of blk/wt/red I could probably make two quilts and let him choose which one he likes the best.
|
I made one with a Figgy Pudding charm pack, and some extra yardage, using the same red in the center square, and the same white in the top, bottom and sides (the ones that get sliced up), so the charms themselves weren't sliced up. Turned out really pretty (sorry, don't have a picture!). Loved the continuity the red gave it.

Nice and colourful!!
