Cotton Theory Quilting is good to watch. There are many traditional Japanese methods as well - they quilt and stitch units together and then stitch each unit into a bigger quilt. You can also quilt a sandwich unit on the machine before joining it to similar units. You can also do a whole cloth type one where you use the sandwich in a similar way to paper piecing.

I am new to quilting also and am doing a qyag attaching the backing as a pillow case and adding tying or buttons in middle of my log cabin squares.
