Won a gift certificate from the fabshophop and am wanting to buy a fabric bundle to make a d9p but I've never made one. Is there a correct number of fabrics that do best? If not, what would you say the range is? Thanks! Virg

I like 3. You get the butterflies and pinwheels that way. 2 fabrics with twice as much yardage as the third.
That is what is in my avitar. Alicia |
Any amount you like! More for a scrappy look, less if you don't want a scrappy look. I like to do the center squares all the same though.

I used 3 for the blocks - center block is same as small inner border and then purchased extra black/white for the large outer border.
HTH ~ :D |
I think 3 is the minimum so you can make the nine patches. More fabrics would add to the design.

I use the same fabric for all the center blocks. My corners are scrappy and the other squares are all the same (I consider that my background fabric.). I did make one with every square scrappy and it was too much. You couldn't pick out the design.

I used charm packs for mine so it was scrappy looking.

You can work with three, but get a little more texture without going scrappy if you maintain the color scheme and print size but vary the outside blocks a little. 3 per block but then do blocks with two outside fabrics being similar/just a bit different
here is one I really liked http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-67422-1.htm |
3 is minimum, maximum is however many you want...scrappy or unified looking. Up to you!!

i don't understand the 3 is minimum.? i used 2 different fabrics.. for each block, just like a regular 9 patch before cutting. made a whole quilt like that, then i did one like pictured below..still 2 fabrics, for each block.
then i have done the scrappy one..looks so totally different..but i do keep the center block in in the 9 patch the same in the each one.. 2 fabric 9 patch/D9P scrappy 9 patch/D9P with same centers |
