How many layers do you cut through with your rotarty cutter? How many is the most you've ever cut through?
I usually only do two at a time - I know a lot of people do more-
If I goof up, it's less of a loss. |
Four here....
Eight.
I don't like to cut less than 4. I can easily cut 8. That's the most I've tried. Don't have a reason to cut any more than 8. How would you fold the fabric and how could you see many more?
usually 4 at a time.
The most 8. Usually 4.

The most I have done is 8. I would not recommend it. I usually do 4.

Two here. Don't think I have the wrist strength to cut more and with accuracy.
Four and sometimes eight. It depends on what I'm cutting it for.

I have done 8 but that requires too much effort. Usually I cut 4 - sometimes just 2.
Usually only 2

Six works best for me with a 45mm blade. Any more than that I my cuts get a little wonky.

Usually 4, most 8.

It really depends on the cutter for me. I have a small, medium, and large. The large can do 8.
I have cut 6 when making OBW's but I prefer 2-4.
I've cut my 1.5" squares for swapping in 8 layers. Didn't have a problem.

8.
It was a beast and I went through blades lickity split. I was careful to keep the shape cut from sliding, made several passes until I couldn't hear the fabric cut anymore. Still had to snip some threads with the scizzor tip. 4 wasn't real bad and I prefer 2. I have to depend on my shape cut because I tend to let a long edge ruler slide when I am making the pass and I tend to rub the ruler with the rotary blade, ruining the blade and ruler. |
4 with the 45 and 8 with the 60. But always with a new blade!
Usually 2, sometimes 4, but not more. It kind of depends on the fabric and what size/type piece or strip I'm cutting. Even though all my fabric is 100% cotton, certain ones lend themselves well to cutting 4 layers at once, others not so much. I also attempt to get more use out of a cutting blade than I should; having a new blade in the cutter makes a difference.
I have cut 8 with a dull blade and it was a mess. I can do 8 easy with a new/ sharp blade. I try to stick with 4-5 depending on what shape i am doing. if you can sharpen or have a new blade i would recommend it for more than 2 layers.

I've done six but I prefer four.

interesting thread, thanks!
