How many quilt projects do you usually have going at once?
Just curious ... back when I was knitting obsessively I'd have five or six projects on needles at the same time. Now that I'm doing quilts I have only one project in the works, but I'm kind of itching to put it on hold to do a couple of other seasonal-type projects. For some reason, the idea makes me feel guilty (maybe it's because my project-in-the-works is a quilt for my daughter, who is eagerly awaiting its completion).
Just wondering how many of you work on multiple projects at the same time, vs just forging ahead with one. |
I have four current projects. A few more stashed away "somewhere". I promised myself I would finish all my current projects now before starting something new. Maybe by New Years I can get an all new, exciting project going.
More than one project at a time!
I have a couple projects I have started but once I start the hand quilting, then it is only one project at a time. But I have lots of ideas I want to try.
I am currently working on about 5 toddler quilts at the moment. I always have more than one going at a time.
I have one quilt I just completed for my granddaughter and completing another that I am doing for me. The reason I procrastinated on my granddaughter's is because I couldn't decide how to back it plus was nervous I'd mess it up..BUT...it turned out sooo nice. I ended up using Minkey on the back.
I usually have two quilts in the making and often do smaller projects on a whim, I'm not one to have UFO'S, makes me crazy to have things left incomplete.
I have 3 I am working on and several morestuffed in the closet.
1. Elmer Quilt (1024 pieces, lots of colours, queen size, needs twenty more blocks made, then sewn up, quilted and bound)
2. Mini quilt - needs hangers 3. Lucky Door prize for the Aboriginal Elders Lunch (lap quilt binding needs hand sewing) 4. HST mix up with whites (cut, hst made,Twin size - for my niece) 5. Purple chinese coin quilt (Needs quilting, binding) 6. Walk around the Block (Needs quilting, binding) 7. Star cushion covers 8. A good long lie down! |
Someone asked me recently if I make lots of quilts. I told them I have lots of quilts I'm making. Does that answer your question?
I seem to be working on several at once when piecing the tops because I love to do "scrappy" quilts, some with fabrics I've had since my pregnancies 30+ years ago. I also have a bad ;) habit of buying fat quarters with no specific quilt design in mind. I have made Patricia Cobb's turning 20 again quilt and I participate in the online fab shop hop to receive the quilt block patterns. I have lots of design ideas on graph paper but a big goal is to do a sampler quilt one day.
I've got two right now. But, I've plans to start four more. I'd really like to finish at least one of them before I get started on the next. Ideas are numerous.
I have about 10 going most all the time...a few are ones I am stumped on as what to do next with them..but seems I am getting better at not having so many UFO's
I am working on three at present but have many more in the pipeline and there are so many more in my head! LOL
I have two BOM quilts going and just finished my last project. I usually work on one or two projects at a time and finish them up before starting another. I don't care for UFO's.

I am actively sewing on two quilt tops. Getting fabric ready or waiting to cut for three to four other tops. And have at least 6 waiting to FMQ. That is not to mention the mug rugs that I want to make before Christmas and any other projects that come up in the mean time. Forgot to mention, I only get to sew when my life of raising my two young kids allow. Now that Soccer season is done, hope to do more sewing. I am also teaching my 9 year old how to sew his first quilt top. So much fun to see him do this. :)
I usually have 2 to 3 projects at one time. I just finished a quilt so I'm down to 2, and I feel "Itchy" too! I keep them in different stages so I am not trying to complete all the projects at one time and feel overwelmed. I have tried to do one quilt then finish it completely, but felt like I needed to mix things up to keep me interested.
:o I try to work on one large project usually a quilt and 1 or 2 small
projects. |
Erm, a few.
The one I'm determined to get done by Christmas (contained crazy quilt that I have now been working on, on and off, for well over a decade - always intended to go to my Mum as a present - I'm now at the handquilting stage and I can't go fast enough for my liking!) a LeMoyne Star a Texas Lone Star (first quilt I ever started, approx 15 years ago, stalled because I have run out of a fabric and can't find anything I like well enough to tone and continue) a sampler quilt (just selecting random blocks I like and making them up) And of course I recently started dabbling in doing blocks from Sylvia's Bridal Sampler too (because I don't have enough going on). Plus many more in my head, including a Paddington Bear which I am most excited about since yesterday I managed to find on sale (£3 p/m - very cheap here!) some co-ordinated Paddington material that will do beautifully as a backing to go with the Paddington fabric I bought from emsgranny a few weeks ago... |
Right now, I have to make the sleeve hangers for the quilts (5) I'm entering in a local quilt show in two weeks. I've got 4 pillow cases ready to sew up for foster children that our guild helps to sponser. Have another quilt partially cut out and have many, many "quilts in clear plastic boxes" ready to cut out and go when I am. I try not to start another quilt until I finish one I'm working on. In my mind tho, I'm working on many at a time....
Hugs |
Always have too many going at once! Keeps me from getting bored! LOL
I have 2 quilts for GGS for Christmas almost finished, just need sandwiching and quilting. One for GD halfway pieced and a dozen things in my mind I would like to do. It seems the holidays are fast approaching.
hi i have about three going at one time. boy with
this county dial up i am usually sitting here half the morning. |

I have four quilts going on; ideas revolving in my head for a million more; but yesterday I couldn't wait to cut out diamonds for the center of Kaleidoscopes......made enough for five quilts!!! I have made myself put that away until I finish all the ones in progress......I hope! LOL |
Waay too many. I think I have somewhere around 25 in various stages but there may be more lurking about.
I usually am actively working on only one. But I have 4 wip - a vintage top to sandwich and hand quilt, a queen size Ohio star that I'm hand quilting, a DWR that is partially pieced, and a GFG that is started.
Am currently half done with a rag quilt for a DGD. Then I have fabric selected for 2 more rag quilts, a twin size bed quilt, a throw, and a Christmas tree skirt. Then there are all the ideas in my head that are too numerous to count. |
I have 2 that I'm working on right now with one more "kit" that I made up myself for a batik I want to make, in a plastic bag callling me. I have a 30s repro jelly roll that is also calling my name that I have plans to make a sampler quilt from. Can't wait to start on that one. The colors are so nice. I have a top finished that needs quilting that I want to use to learn long arm quilting on. Our local long armer has classes to teach you how to do it and rents time on her machine. Can't wait to do that. All in all, I don't have to shop or make decisions about new projects for at least a year, but I probably will anyway.
I have way too many. I have a BOM, one top finished for another - need to piece the back, a quilt sandwich ready to go, and all my other WIPs that are from classes or shop hops. :)
perfect answer! I was going to say please don't make me count.

Well .... I am a very new quilter. I have four going right now and they are ALL firsts! I really have only finished one small
lap-quilt that I did in a class. The rest are my first ones that I have done all on my own. I also have a small Hawaiian wall piece that I am working on. Crazy huh? When I finish, I will post pictures. These are all Christmas gifts. :) |
