How Many Quilting Magazine Subscriptions?

I'm curious - how many quilting magazines do you subscribe to, and which ones?

luvstoquilt 12-12-2012 08:08 AM

I used to get a lot but have narrowed it down to just McCalls. I look at others on the news stand and only buy the issues I want.

crafty pat 12-12-2012 08:22 AM

Fon's and Porters Love of quilting and Easy Quilts, The Quilter, Quilters Newsletter, Quilters World, Quilt, McCall's Quilting, Quilt Trends, and Quilt maker. I think there is another one but I can't think of it right now.

ckcowl 12-12-2012 08:50 AM

none- i let subscriptions run out a couple years ago- now when i shop i browse, pick up individual magazines when one catches my eye-has content i am interested in- i had too many magazines arriving that had nothing in them that i wanted to do, was interested in & found i like more of a variety instead of committing to one or two- there are so many out there to experience- i like to pick up different ones here & there.

Dragonomine 12-12-2012 09:17 AM

None and never have. Everything I need to know I can get on the internet. :)

auntpiggylpn 12-12-2012 09:22 AM

I used to subscribe to 4 different ones. I found that I looked through them a couple of times and then maybe use a pattern out of one. I then put them up on top of the book case and there they still are. I do browse magazines when I am out shopping and sometimes I will purchase one but not very often. Quilter's World was my favorite one and it is the only one that I hesitated in letting my subscription to lapse but alas, I bid it farewell also.

iwillquilt 12-12-2012 10:50 AM

Quilters Newsletter is my favorite! But I get Quilters World, McCalls and I just got a new one. Can't think of the name right now. Haven't looked at the first page yet so can't comment on it anyway. I love looking through them. But only get ideas. Rarely use a pattern from them. So many patterns in so many places to choose from.

quiltingcandy 12-12-2012 11:02 AM

I loved getting the magazine every other month but finally stopped renewing it - there are only so many patterns to save and never use. So I will look at the magazines at the Quilt Shops or grocery store or airport and if they have something worth reading I will buy it then.

dunster 12-12-2012 11:22 AM

I have kept my subscription to Quilters Newsletter Magazine even when I let the others expire, and I look forward to every issue. I also get the American Quilter with membership in AQS and subscribe to Machine Quilting Unlimited in hopes of learning more about longarming. I recently accepted a really cheap combined offer for McCalls Quilting and McCalls Quick Quilts but will let them expire if another cheap offer doesn't come along. Like other posters, I really hate it when it appears that the magazine is just selling fabric lines by offering the same old quilt patterns made with the latest fabrics.

quiltstringz 12-12-2012 11:23 AM

I quit subscribing also. Look at the ones in the store and if they have something that really interests me I will buy. Yes it is more that way but I have never found 1 magazine that I buy enough of to equal the subscription price

quilttiger 12-12-2012 11:29 AM

American Quilter, Quilter's Newsletter, American Patching & Quitwork, Modern Quilts Unlimited. The last one is very new and I am trying it for a year. I have subscribed to different quilt magazines over the years. I probably will drop one or two when the subscriptions expire since there can be information overload, and I have enough ideas as it is! :D:D:D

MamaO2011 12-12-2012 12:29 PM

I asked DH for 3 magazine subscriptions for Christmas: American Patchwork, McCall's and Quilters World.

javin22 12-12-2012 12:49 PM

I get Quilter's World and McCall's Quick Quilts. I used to get a couple of others, but didn't like the style they had.

quilter2090 12-12-2012 12:59 PM

Fons and Porter's Love of Quilting, Fons and Porter's Easy Quilts,Quilters World,McCall's Quilting,Quilt.

HouseDragon 12-12-2012 01:47 PM

I used to have a LOT of subscriptions but let them expire one by one. Now I'm down to Quiltmaker (because of Bonnie Hunter's column), American Quilter with membership in AQS, and Quilt (actually that one may have run out).

I do look through each quilt magazine as I see one on the news stand: my rule is buy it ONLY if it has at least three quilts I'd like to make. *LOL* That doesn't happen very often any more!

The only magazine I grab without looking is the one with the Shop Hops: Quilt Sampler. I love that magazine!

If I can get a really good deal on BH&G's American Patchwork & Quilting, I'd re-subscribe.
:)

Jackie Spencer 12-12-2012 02:52 PM

I used to get them all, but most of the time there was nothing in them that peaked my interest. Now I look thru them w hen Im shopping and if I see something, then I buy it.

happyquiltmom 12-12-2012 03:40 PM

There seems to be a trend here...I also used to subscribe to several: American Patchwork & Quilting, Fons & Porter Love of Quilting, and McCalls. I'm down to McCalls now, and will not renew it.

I think maybe I've outgrown them. I've worked at a LQS for 5 years now, and tend to buy patterns and books instead. Or make up my own design...

Quiltngolfer 12-12-2012 03:54 PM

I used to get Fons and Porter, McCalls Quilting, and McCalls Quick Quilts. I have let them all lapse. There was just nothing good enough to pay the high prices they demand. There seemed to be more ads and less patterns and information in them all. I spend my money on quilt books and patterns now. I already have more on my bucket list than I can make in a lifetime anyway.

sandrab64 12-13-2012 06:16 AM

I currently am subscribed to about 6. Two of them are digital subscriptions and it is nice to have these since I save them as PDF's on my iPad2. I can then just take my iPad along and will have a dozen mags right in my hand. Plus, it doesn't take up shelf space. I LOVE it when a new mag arrives in the mail but am going to start letting them go. Need to start working from my 'magazine stash' now instead of getting new ones.

joyce j 12-13-2012 06:19 AM

I have 2 that comes now , but when they run out ,no more,

carslo 12-13-2012 06:54 AM

Just one American Patchwork and Quilting by Better Homes and Gardens I think. I also have a rule that I need to make at least one thing from each edition otherwise it will be a waste of money!

AND on this forum. i know i couldn't keep up with even one quilt pattern per issue...even if i just got one magazine! i am a "fits and starts" kind of quilter, and i know it!

Sandygirl 12-17-2012 04:18 AM

I have too many stacked under the bed. I only subscribe to Fons & porter now. After a couple of flipping thru the pages, i add the issues to my neglected pile. Online is my source or patterns and info.

Well I have MANY subscriptions in both formats of print & digital.

All of my subscriptions I have had for MANY years and do NOT plan
to renew them when they expire. The ONLY magazines I want to keep
are Quilter's World, McCall's Quick Quilts, & the two NEW (much CHEAPER)
magazines I found recently which are Quilt-It Today & Sew-It Today ($3.99
per issue if purchased in a store).

But I still have several years left on most of my subscriptions.

I am letting mine go probably. Too much repetition after a while. I'll browse the store and pick up what catches my eye.

Save the offer and give them a call when it is time to renew. I did that for This Old House. There was a code that I needed from the fist mailing and they honored it for renewal too. The person that I talked with didn't have access to the code needed.

As a side note, I am executrix of my Dad's estate and have been calling to cancel all of his various subscriptions, wood working, cooking, photography.....and the list goes on. Some keep you on hold for over 5 minutes before a live person answers. *sigh*

I have only been quilting about 2 years and in the beginning I probably got pretty much all of them. I have looked through and taken out what I want and then passed them on to others. I have books of projects I would like to do. I am now letter most of the magazines expire. I will keep a couple but some very seldom had anything I really liked. I will look at them at the newstand and buy it if it specifically has something I want.
