do you work on at once (have in some kind of rotation)? How many UFOs do you have? Since I'm new to quilting (or I should say, I'm back to quilting, haven't done it in years!) I just have the one main quilt I'm working on (the Garden Patch) and I have a block that I need to finish into a pillow for DD and I also have to finish the table topper I started when I thought the other one was ruined. I do have a quilt that I started about 4 years ago for DH, but it's in a box somewhere and I need to find it. I would love to have it finished for him for Christmas.

Hugs!

I have too many to count at the moment. I was cleaning up my room and found 2 quilts I started, but put away for some reason, they probably made me mad. lol
I think there was a thread about this before and one mentioned they had about 30+ going on. OH MY!

bebe 07-28-2008 05:31 AM

I have several and many have been in progree for years. 2 Christmas, tulip farm, flying geese, turquoise and brn diamonds, one with a reproduction collection, a cake stand one, biblical blocks, tea party, flip flops, whirli gig scrappy, orange crush mystery, another scrappy, and others I cannot think of.

Those are my ufo's not counting the dozens flying in my head!!!!

live2teach 07-28-2008 05:33 AM

I haven't done many large quilt projects. I tend to have all kinds of smaller projects but with quilts, I like to finish one then go to the next...that's probably why I haven' done many large ones...LOL.

mamatobugboo 07-28-2008 07:14 AM

i am currently working on 4 projects - 2 crib size quilts for twins, my dad's Navy quilt and 2 tote bags for a silent auction. That doesn't include the following UFOs: king size civil war sampler started 4 years ago, a dresden plate wallhanging/runner started 3 1/2 years ago, prairie braid floor pillow started about 4 years ago, a prairie braid luggage rack started in April, a quilting tool holder started i don't know when, and I think that is it for actual projects started but not completed!

I do have a total of 18 projects with fabric and patterns lined up on my shelf to start and put aside, occasionally finishing a few while I amass MORE projects to start and then put aside!

Quilt4u 07-28-2008 07:24 AM

I have 10 going on but two have have my attention right now.

KellyPA 07-28-2008 07:32 AM

My trouble is I keep seeing new patterns I want to start. I have been pretty good about finishing one before starting another, but it is getting hard!!!! I have so many ideas whirling around my head right now!!!

This year we have decided to do a homemade Christmas....everything we give has to be home-made! This includes our children ages 12 (will be 13 in October) and 8 years old. We talked about this last night at dinner. We are all really excited and my younger DD has already drawn up plans for all her projects. Most of my gifts will be cross stitched, since I already purchased the patterns to make those gifts, but I have a few quilt ideas (especially for my DDs) that I would love to give for the holidays!

Hugs!!!!

I have approximately a gazillion UFOs. That's my story & I'm sticking to it!

beachlady 07-28-2008 09:57 AM

Me too.

CissyQuilts 07-28-2008 10:19 AM

I normally have 3-4 projects going at one time. They are in various stages. I have lots of PIGS too. PIGS=projects in grocery sacks. Then there are the projects in my mind.

purplemem 07-28-2008 10:31 AM

I have one baby quilt that is finished except for one little piece of quilting and the binding, I have one crib quilt that I am quilting now, I have my dd's wedding quilt that I am supposed to have pieced to send to long arm quilter by first of August  , I have another baby quilt (commissioned) that I have purchased the material but not started, I have one that has all the fabric picked out and bought (for my queen bed) and pattern chosen, and I have two more baby quilts with the fabric bought and the pattern chosen - but they haven't been started.

I want to make a blue, yellow, and white quilt for my bedroom and I think I am going to buy the fabrics and give them to friends to do Birthday blocks for me. My birthday is in January.

This doesn't count my stash or the patterns I have chosen to use, but not bought the fabrics yet. So my answer is 8 right now WIPs.

Aside from a couple of block a month kind of projects that have to be an ongoing thing, I try to only have one project at a time going. I have lots I haven't started yet, but once I start one, I try to finish it before I move on to another. If I let myself, my expertise at procrastinating would help me to never finish anything! :)

penski 07-28-2008 11:51 AM

i only work on one quilt at a time and dont start another till it is done of coarse sometimes i get burned out on it and have to take a break
but that is the way i am cause i dont have room to have a lot of differant
projects laying around

You don't wanna know...

Well, time to admit that my hobby is really BUYing patterns! I buy more patterns than I make quilts :-)

I have two small quilts started and fabric washed and ironed for another plus many planned, i.e., memory quilt for my MIL, hankie quilt from my grans. hankies, etc. I like to finish my projects before starting another, but it's hard!

Jim's Gem 07-28-2008 12:07 PM

Well,l I don't know exactly how many are in process, I have 9 that are already spraybasted and sandwiched waiting to be quilted, 1 top done with a back ready, 4 more tops (all extra queen) that only need a border or two, 5 block exchanges that the blocks are done but just need me to decide how to put together, 5 block of the months that have the blocks done also, 4 more that the fabrics and patterns have been matched and tons of ideas and patterns yet to be put together. I haven't been sewing because of complications of surgery, but I am ready soon to begin again. I have a new sewing room in process almost ready to be completed too. Can't wait!!!

Quiltinsolitude 07-28-2008 03:08 PM

I only have one quilt working at a time . . . I may have many planned and even have fabric ready to go . . . but I only work on one at a time because otherwise I might not finish. I do, sometimes, have another kind of project in the works - currently I also have an afghan I'm working on because DD wants it and it's easy to crochet blocks for it while riding the bus home from work.

When I was much younger (back around the time of the dinosaurs), I would start lots of projects and seldom finish any of them. So now I try to finish anything I start. I ain't necessarily fast, but I get there in the end.

I admire your self control. Right now I have two finished tops, one almost finished top, one I'm hand quilting that's about half done, one with blocks I pieced that needs to be put together. I also have about 6 projects all lined up that will use blocks I purchased from eBay.

JCL in FL 07-29-2008 07:54 PM

right now I'm quilting one baby quilt, by hand. One done waiting me to buy the backing material and machine quilt and another partly sewn and partly cut out. because I'm making a Halloween quilt and I've still go to figure out some of the pieces on that one.I like to have at least two going. Sometimes I feel like quilting and some times sewing. some time my fingers need a rest from quilting so I work on a sewing project then. I don't like to have too many going at a time cause I'll abandon my least favorite.

gcathie 07-29-2008 09:27 PM

Gee I must be weird....I try to finish what I start....I use my next project for my inspiration...I hang it up so I stay motivated....I'm always looking for the next thing I want to do....I do have blocks cut out of different sizes and color...but they weren't meant for anything special...just extras....I do have a quilt I'm decideing on what I want to do with it...weird huh.....

#1piecemaker 07-30-2008 07:09 AM

I thought it was a quilter's rule to always have 4 or 5 going at a time. This is what I tell my quilting gals any way. I have about 6 now and am going to start another. I is so cool when they all come together and you finish them all aboiut the same time. I love it. I hope God keeps my eyesight good and my fingers nimble and a long life so I can finish them all. I love it!

oh, were we counting those too?? Well, in that case, up my number to about 50 UFOs! Is there ever enough time to get our projects done?!

sewnsewer2 07-30-2008 09:30 AM

I tend to flip flop between different quilts because I get bored very easily if they aren't challanging enough.

Same here. Or I put one aside if it's not coming together the way I want. Usually when I give it a rest for a while I have a whole new perspective when I come back.

kd124 07-30-2008 11:03 AM

I usually have at least 2 hanging around. I just finished 2 for the county fair. They have a charity section and all the quilts go to charity after the fair. Time to start that quilt for me.

minstrel 08-01-2008 05:58 AM

I usually only do one at a time also, otherwise, I just never seem to finish. Officially, as of about an hour ago, I have exactly NO (!) projects going because I just finished the queen bed quilt I've been working on for like, forever! Actually, I had set that one aside and it sat all sandwiched and waiting for me for over a year because I didn't want to hand quilt it and the size intimidated me for machine quilting. I did a Christmas wall quilt and a couple of quilted Christmas stockings in between. But I bit the bullet and actually finished the big one. Hooray! Now I have 5 other projects rumbling around in my head to do before Christmas. Decisions, decisions....

bearpaw 08-01-2008 08:23 AM

Let's see. Right now I have two that are being hand quilted (I'm kind of slow at this), a log cabin that I started about 9 years ago (just a bunch of blocks in a box), and a block of the month (that has turned into a block of about 36 months). And many, many more in my head

all4quilt 08-01-2008 08:42 AM

I really like to keep up n my projects, but some of them just get away from me! I think I'm caught up and then I find something I started a long time ago! LOL!!

Sometimes you just have to be in the mood to finish something. And sometimes I just can't wait to get started on a new idea before I forget what I was going to do!

Susan

babeegirl 08-01-2008 09:20 AM

Do the ones from 10 years ago count? I have some that I can't bear to part with but can't find time to finish :) My answer.....many.
