I was just at the State Fair and was quoted $1,500. This is a pretty good price for it, isn't it? Would be interested in comments about this machine too. My sister pointed out that there is no free arm, so she wouldn't be able to hem pants cuffs on it (her primary sewing task at home). It looked great for quilting, though. I already have a Bernina 1230 so I don't actually *need* a 6600; I just *want* a 6600.

The reason I asked about the syllables is because I always thought there were 2 syllables in Janome and that it rhymed with Nome, Alaska. The saleswoman pronounced it as 3 syllables (Jah-no-me).

No free arm is one of the factors in my not getting one, I love all the thread cutters though. I also prefer a slide in bobbin as opposed to a drop in. I can still change the bobbin fairly easy with a quilt still on top.

I guess English doesn't have a word for the eye of a snake! Languages are sure fun to learn about.

i have a Janome and have always said it in 3 syllables.

Sigh. Okay, now I have to train my brain to think in 3 syllables when I see Janome! I love information like the "Eye of the Snake"; the imagery is great.

Loved so many things about that 6600. I just don't see it in the budget for us this year. Am still thinking about it, though......

I have an older 3 syllable machine! With a free arm, that I don't use with quilting, but do use when I sew doll clothing!

achine down into it. I know, he spoils me, but then again I am worth it.

It is three syllables. I have a Jonome and love it. Despite it not having a free arm, all the other stuff makes up for that. Buy a cheaper model if you want a freearm for sewing, but I love my 6600 for quilting. Take lessons if you can. Many shortcuts they can tell you about. Love all teh features especially the walking foot. Also, I can minimize the stitch length to something like 27 if I choose. The price is about what they are selling for now. I got mine for $1200 on sale. DH helped pay it off.
He is so good to me. Even came home tonight from his Dr's in Beckley, and he went to Ollies a discount store, and brought me a quilting book. Love him!

I have had a 6600 for 2 years - they are double those prices in France but I wanted one so badly. I wanted it particularly for quilting and I absolutely love it. Takes any thread without tension adjustment fiddling, quilts beautifully, I never have any wrinkles. I also have all the additional Accufeed feet and use them all. This year I got the Janome table specifically built for it and that made it even better.

I've read some reviews that were favorable and none that were negative but I've only read a few.

I bought a 6600 last year for $1500. It is a great machine! I wouldn't trade it for the world. I'm saving up now for a 350 embroidery machine.

I'm hoping to get one for Christmas. Have the brochure on the fridge where DH is sure to see it.

the sales person was correct and they use to be the New Home models.
Janome bought them out awhile back. I have the 7000, 8000 and the 10001. Love them all. no complaints with any of them.

That's a great price. Go for it!! Don't worry about giving up the free arm; keep your old machine for that. What you give up in free arm you will gain in extra space between the machine head and bed for shoving your quilt into, and with the accufeed foot you will be inspired to machine quilt.

I have a 6600 and it sews better than I do. My old free-arm machine is also a Janome and it has a sweet sound. The schools here used Janomes because they were so durable and easy to use which says something about them as well.

I'd like an embroidery machine, too. Don't plan on doing anything really big with it. Would just like to be able to do little pictures and designs on bibs or quilt squares. Anyone have any recommendations?

2-syllable, 3-syllable ----what's the difference? In a few years we'll all be calling it a "thingy" cuz we can't remember the name, but know what it is. :lol:

That is a great users group for people with 6500 or 6600. There is a lot of great information. I have a 6500. Love it.
