A lot more than I want to admit. LOL . Like just this afternoon I was making a pillow cover for my friend and sewed the entire cover closed before I inserted the pillow foam.

Here is a tip I found from somewhere.....place two pins side by side at the point you want to quit stitching. I see those two pins and remember to stop sewing every single time!

I use the 2 pin method also and I use pins with red tops (flower pins). I also try to not let my mind wander as I am finishing a seam!! LOL

I use the yellow glass head pins for nearly all my sewing. But I've saved a few other colors over the years. Now when I pin something together where I want to leave an opening, I put a green headed pin where I want to start sewing and a red headed pin where I want to stop.

I did it once and after that I read about a great tip.... apply painter's tape (mine is blue and has low tack) along the space you wish to remain open. The roll of tape hangs nearby so I can easily grab it when sewing.

I do something differently. I use only ONE pin. Ha ha! That's because I almost never pin the whole quilt around the outside.
|
The two I've birthed, I found easier to leave a larger opening. I also use the 2 pin method. I have kept a couple wooden cooking utensils to push the corners out better.
