How many use stencils to mark their quilts?

After being totally frustrated trying to do FM feathers, I purchased a few stencils.
What a difference!! I realize this is an extra step to FMQ but it looks great.
Just wondered how many do this?

I do, for sure. Have a bunch of them from the Stencil Company because I started buying them from their booth decades ago at the Houston International Quilt Festival every year.

I finally have learned to do feathers to my liking. Not sure which videos I watched but one day everything clicked. I just purchased Cindy Needham's 'Ultimate Stencil' set to do draw straight lines on my fabric. What ever helps is worth the price. Happy feathering.:)

I use stencils, I hand draw designs, I've even printed designs on paper and pinned the papers to a quilt and followed the printed designs. I do whatever I need to do to get it quilted how I want it.

I use stencils on occasion. Not for feathers though, I can free hand those but I do need to draw my spine. I definitely do a lot of marking for my quilting.

I don't do FMQ, but I DO use stencils for marking. I love them, both the store bought ones, and some that I've made myself.

I probably have over 200 stencils. I find a stencil is much more attractive quilting then just meandering. I find it easier to follow a line doing FMQ.

I use stencils at times, often mix stencils with free hand work-- I love the vast variety of stencils available.

I have a few stencils and love using them. When I have a center square in a block I like to use a stencil for a pretty free motion motif in the square. I don't do "free hand" free motion quilting so this is a perfect solution for me to be able to do something besides just stitch in the ditch.

i do. i make my own most of the time from pepper cory's quilting designs from the amish, but i have bought a few. fmq and i are getting to be friends, but i love cables and structured, traditional quilting designs. i always gravitate back that way.
