I have a Viking Designer I and I love it. It just
takes lots of practice. I just do mendering or
straight stitching on my quilts so far but I am
going to try different designs as soon as I get
my courage up.

I use my regular machine for everything because it is the only one I have. Larger quilts are difficult but you can push and scrunch to FM and it works nicely. It is a process and takes a while because it takes time to resituate all the quilt every once in awhile. Just be sure you have plenty of space for the quilt to lay on, the part you are not working on, and go slow. It is great.

I send my big quilt tops to my neice who does LAQing, but I use my walking foot and have BSR on my Bernina do to everything else.

I use my Rose with the free motion (darning)foot, I have stippling down to an art, but I don't have the nerve to try other designs. I too recommend same projects. The throat of the machine is just to small for anything larger than a twin and that is pushing it! Take a class at your local quilt show, it will give you lots of confidence! Happy quilting!

I quilt on my Pfaffs, Juki and vintage Singers all the time with all types of quilting methods. Yes, I have to puddle and struggle a bit but for me it is so rewarding to do my own work.

I free motion quilt on my domestic machine and love it. I actually have no desire to quilt on a long arm. I started out sewing with a little Walmart Brother and that's what I learned FMQ'ing on. I later got a Bernina 440 and as much as I loved that machine, the throat space was way too small. I quilted many, many quilts on it from small wall hangings up to a 90x90 bed quilt. Big quilt can be a bit tricky with smaller throat spaces but you're only in the center of the quilt for a short time. As you move out you have less quilt crammed in the throat and quilting is easier.

Jumping in and giving it a try is the only way to learn! Best of luck! :)

I have a Janome 6600 that I use as my piecing machine as well as doing the quilting with it. I have quilted a king size quilt on it and was very pleased with the results. I am seriously considering a longarm - the prices seem high to me unless I can find a used one. There's also the learning curse that goes along with it. I seem to be able to machine quilt with a small amount of success so I don't know if I want to start all over again.

I quilt using the embroidery unit on my viking designer se. I am having to quilt on my juki TL-98Q as it's in the shop at the moment.

I quilt mine by hand. since most of my quilts are large, I can't see trying to struggle with them under a small machine. That's why I'm saving for the longarm. that and the fact I have about a 100 tops to quilt.
