The Fat Quarter Shop has a grab bag of 12 lbs of fabric for $58.49, normally $64.99. I have no idea how much yardage that might be.

I'm going to order the grab bag of eight 1/2 yard cuts of the Harvest Home collection for $21. I have 2 jelly rolls of that plus two 1yd and one 2yd cuts. I have some tentative plans for it but I can expand my options beyond jelly roll size with the half yard cuts.

I used my postal scale to weigh a one-yard piece of quilting cotton and it was 4 ounces, so I would estimate close to 4 yards of fabric per pound. Kona cotton, which is a thicker weave, would be less yardage per pound.

pittsburgpam 03-31-2009 06:59 AM

Wow... that would be 48 yards of fabric for $58??? and quilt shop quality?

zyxquilts 03-31-2009 07:01 AM

Seems when I bought some fabric by the pound, it came out to about 3 yards/pound. :D

pittsburgpam 03-31-2009 07:04 AM

Still... 12 lbs @ 3yds per pound is 36 yards. Not bad for $58, that's $1.61 per yard of quality fabric. A yard at the same price as a FQ on sale sometimes.

Sounds like a great deal. I suspect most are small pieces -- probably irregularly sized eighths and quarter-yards.

pittsburgpam 03-31-2009 08:57 AM

Well, I ordered them. I'll see what I get... and post them.

mimisharon 03-31-2009 09:22 AM

Pam, did they give you any idea on colors or prints in the bag??

BellaBoo 03-31-2009 09:51 AM

That is a great value. Be sure and post when you receive it. I would like to know how you like it.

RedGarnet222 03-31-2009 09:59 AM

Pam,
Look at the bearpaw sale that someone else gave the link for. There is some harvest home fabric there for four dollars a yard. Your twenty one dollar buy makes it five dollars and ten cents a yard.
Put a search in for harvest home they will all come up. I am not sure what is left but, it is worth a try.

Pam--It sounds like an excellent deal and the Fat Quarter Shop is very reputable. I have bought from them before. Be sure to let us know what you get!!

pittsburgpam 03-31-2009 01:58 PM

Nope, there is no indication of what fabric or color but, I like most of the fabric collections they have. I'm sure I won't be disappointed. At least I hope not.

Dang... I already ordered the 8 1/2 yds of Harvest Home this morning.

QuiltingTurtle 03-31-2009 02:43 PM

Yes, please post when you receive it. Inquiring minds want to know :)

Oh boy, I can't wait to see the pictures. I get almost as excited about other people fabric buys as I get about my own.

pittsburgpam 03-31-2009 07:45 PM

I'll do my very best to keep exciting you over and over!!

It came today in a nice big box. I was outside doing some gardening when the truck pulled. Luckily I was just finishing or the weeds would be waiting for another day!

Anticipation... I made a pot of coffee while I looked at the unopened box. Got a cup, carried the box and coffee upstairs... then a co-worker called. After showing him online how I accomplished a toll free number routing request today and finally getting off the phone... I sat on the floor and starting taking out one piece at a time, checking each one, feeling it, looking at the collection if it was showing on the selvedge and laying them out by color.

Almost all of them are Moda, most are at least a quarter yard, either FQ size or WOF, some are 5" and more strips WOF. Overall I'm pretty happy with it for a stash for scrappy quilts and there sure is a wide selection. I recognize some of the fabrics from collections I have, or want, and it even has some of the bird eggs from the Aviary collection that I was thinking of getting for sashing posts in a design I did for that collection.

Guess what I'm doing this weekend? Organizing my stash again!

Nice fabrics. Glad that you are happy with them!!!

littlehud 04-03-2009 04:49 PM

They are so pretty. What fun scrappy quilts you can make from that.

Now that looks very tempting. Thanks for sharing the photo.

Just looking through some older posts and wondered, did you order poundage from Fat Quarter Shop? What kinds of fabrics, quality and sizes did you get with the package. I have considered purchasing this way but was always weary of what I was really going to get. Was it worth it? Would you do it again?

Barbm 07-14-2010 05:06 PM

looks great! I just sent a box weighing 17 lbs. to a friend but it included notions. I didn't figure out how many yards of fabric were in it, but I had a larger box and I couldn't carry it, so I had to do 2. At least now I know I sent a box worth receiving.

So- overall- was all the quality real good? Would you recommend to someone purchasing the same way?

Thanks!
Barb

Pam I won an auction for Moda Strawberry Lemonade fabric on Ebay. I was to pay shipping for 12 lbs but the box weighed in at 15 lbs and I got a shopping bag from private Seller full to the top. It was still in the original quilt shop bag they purchased the material from. I got yardage, 35 FQ's, 4 jelly rolls, and at least 10 charms packs. I paid $19.90 plus 10.00 s+h - $29.90 total! That was my deal of the decade! Harvest home is beautiful and so are your quilts! I'm sure you will make something magnificent out of it!
