How much fabric does it take for a king hunter star quilt?

I am going to make a king size hunter star for my brother, but don't know how much fabric it well take. It is going to be two colors and I need to know how much each. I came up with 12 yrds each but that seams like way to much. A king takes 72 12" blocks and than you have the border. I have been alover the enter net and can't find out. Hope someone can help.

Ha!
I knew that question sounded familiar.

btw, the quilt drawing in that thread (72 blocks, 8x9, block made up four 6" blocks) is 96"x108" without the border.

Well, it would depend on whether you are going to add borders or not. Also are you going to do just 2 colors or shades of color. Are you going to make it scrappy with squares and HSTs.

A lot of unknows yet.

Do you or a freind have EQ? If so, that can calculate whatever size you want and how you want to do it.

According to Jan Krentz'sbook there are many ways to make this quilt: templates, precision cutting, HST's, PP, strip piecing, and fusing. Lots of choices here too.
