A friend just dropped by and I showed her the pillow cases I had just made for Christmas gifts and she asked if I could make her a couple she said she would pay me for them. How much would you charge for a pillow case?

That's about what I was thinking.

It depends on how much you pay for a yard of fabric. I would figure about a yard and a half for the fabric and add a couple of dollars to that for your time.

Local Quilt Shops here sell the kits for $15.00 plus pattern. The kit is for ONE pillow case.
A lot pricey for me, when you consider the amount of fabric
needed to make one pillow case. I can make several sets for $15.00

A couple of dollars for your time? Just remember minimum wage in the US is $7.25 an hour. If you're trying to break even and do a favor for friend, factor in all the costs, including your time. Chances are your buddy will be thrilled that you are willing to make them something custom and handmade and will want to compensate you for your time and talent.

if you buy fabric, $12.00 to $15.00. most people think of paying only $5.00 for anything!

Even Wal-Mart sells the kits for $8.00 each. Depending on the fabric you could be looking at $20.00 a piece.

I would say 15.00 is a fair price. I love making those tube pillows!

Hi Cindle...I heard Martha Pullen say that you should get as much as you can for what you make! I love to sell the stuff I make and I like to get 3-4x the cost of materials. so if the fabrics cost $10.00, try to sell the sewn article for $30-$40. I think we tend to undervalue our work.

Well, The seamstress can always sell for less... that is where the undervaluing of our work starts. We do save money by sewing for ourselves, but ordering a custom-sewn article is no way to save money! If the prospective buyer wants a low price, she should sew the pillowcases herself! It is not our job to make cheap stuff for penny pinchers! ;-)

This penny pincher has no 0 balance on credit cards, paid off morgage and no car loans...I love being thirfty...I can spend more on other quality items (such as LQS material/sewing machine and travel//I buy quality but look for the best deals and don't buy things I do not need (mostly...LOL)...and love having NO debt...; ) My wedding cost $50.00 I did not want my parents to be in debt over a simple cermony...been married for 29 years and saved the money that would have been spent in a day for a house down payment. So many people I know divorce over money issues...that is one fight we have never had. ; ) and yes...I do spend alot on large purchases...but do not spend alot money on the little stuff that adds up such as clothes. (I wait for the sales) : ) Now if I only could teach my grown kids the same...LOL...
