How much time do you actually spend sewing quilts?
 

I mean time spent actually working on making a quilt -- not including time spent going through magazines looking for a pattern, saving quilts on Pinterest, reading the QB, dreaming about quilting, designing a quilt, buying fabric, organizing fabric, cleaning up your sewing room, etc. I'm asking because I have realized in the last year that I have spent ***many*** more hours doing all the associated stuff in comparison to the time I actually spend making a quilt. My goal this year is to spend more time every day actually cutting and sewing. So far I haven't been very successful. On a good day I might get 2 hours, but there are more days when I get nothing done.

You sound like me. But I really enjoy the dreaming, planning, sharing, shopping, getting educated, and I count this as part of my time on my "hobby". Actual sewing time is 2hrs on a good day. and many days no sewing because I do have a life, with people and demands in it that are more than a hobby.

Probably less than most on this board. My mojo comes and goes. I do not have a stash. When I feel like it I quilt. Sometimes every day. Sometimes days or weeks go by and I am doing other things. I go to the quilt shop on Fridays for the companionship. I enjoy tinkering with the vintags machines. I don't put pressure on myself and just do what I feel like when I feel like it. But I do enjoy everything about making a quilt.

Usually I spend most of my free time sewing and doing other quilt related things.
I got a new kitty june 4th and not worth fighting her. I have been sewing a lot less than I would prefer. Right now the kitty is very obnoxious, and a real pain. She is long and thin and go through bars on gates at doorways. She will get too big to get through them soon. I will be able to get back at quilting making by this fall.

I teach a monthly community quilt class, belong to two guilds, and an active sew group and keep my two grandsons age 2 and 4 during the day for three days a week. I always have a quilting project that needs to be finished. I usually don't sew unless I have a full day to devote to it. I don't like sewing knowing I only have an hour or two. I get more accomplished devoting whole days to a project. This is why I like going on retreats. Nothing to do but sew. I go to at least three a year. I get caught up with my projects at retreats.

It's all good! If you enjoy looking at patterns online, organizing the craft room, reading the board... why not? It's all part of your quilting hobby. You are not a machine that has to turn out "X" amount of quilts per month. Just enjoy!

DH put a screen door going to my sewing room. The cat and dog would lay in front of it waiting for me to come out and were content as long as they could see me. I couldn't lay out anything, cut anything, or sew, the cat was right on top of it.

Not nearly enough! :( I work with a group of ladies on donation quilts and thoroughly enjoy our day of sewing once a month. I would like to do more between our monthly gatherings, but with work and business travel, it's not always possible.

This makes me feel much better! I haven't done much sewing lately since I had my knee replaced. Been on the board and Facebook a lot, and feeling guilty about not sewing. Thanks for helping me take myself off the hook!
