Can anyone direct me to a tutorial on making an off kilter block? I tried to Google it, but "off kilter" doesn't seem to be the right way to describe it, because I didn't find anything.

Can you describe it more, or maybe provide a picture or link?

I don't know about any whole blocks that are "wonky" (or off kilter) but there are several blocks that start off "wonky" then have a finished edge to make them square (or rectangle, or equal tri, etc). But none that finish "wonky".

Try doing a search for "wonky" here on the board ... perhaps this is what your talking about?

"wonky" is not a word we use for quilting blocks. (Intentionally that is.)

I think Wonky is a word used here sometimes for piecing I did a search and here is what came up

Sew regular straight pieces on all four sides.
Use a square ruler, turn it 'wonky' and cut extra fabric off.
I mark desired wonky placement with blue painter tape.

Yes, "wonky" is a quilting term. Google "wonky quilt blocks" and you'll find pages of off-kilter type blocks that are very fun and interesting.

To make the blocks you are talking about-you need to cut a strip diaganolly and sew them to the block. Bonnie has a good tutorial about it on her scrappy house http://quiltville.com/pdf/happyscrappyhouses.pdf

Try skewed, tilted, slanted, twisted for synonyms of 'off kilter'.

Do a net search for 'wondy quilt blocks' and you'll get a lot of info.

Otherwise ... you just cut off triangles on each side of your square ... the same on all sides ... and it will then be wonky. You can measure ___ inches from one corner and ____ inches fromt he other corner. However you do it ... it will work.

You can also look at some Escher drawings and see how they are designed. They basically were squares but the whatever was removed on one side was put on the other side.
