Mine was started in 1993 and is still unfinished. It is a Biscuit Quilt for a camping trailer that I sold in 1994. Weighs a ton and is almost done, guess I need to finish it.

I have the "FABRIC" that I purchased in late 70's for a Lone Star Quilt. Does THAT count as a quilt? lol ! Ya'll have inspired me to wash fabric again and "git er done!!! " or at least STARTED.... Thanks for the kick in the b***! :)

Late 1996, I think. It is 114" x 114" and is being hand quilted ... obviously not very fast! Although many of the smaller squares and triangles are not yet quilted, those unquilted portions are secure and I plan to finish the last 6 outer blocks this fall and put the binding on. With the binding on, it will be easier to manipulate the quilt to work on all the little parts. It is the first quilt I ever made and the quilt police should never see this quilt; it might be fatal for them ... there are so many wrong things ... thread, fabric, backing, color value!! I finish it because DH loves it (and nags me occasionally about it) and I am one who needs to finish stuff, if at all possible, no matter the problems or how long it takes.

Started a top 42 years ago still have to get it done soon.

I found some really wonky blocks that my 2 sisters and I put together when we were very young. I have it ready to put on the machine, but just lately had a mild heart attack and I am recovering well. I just love this old quilt and I've got to get it finished. Gonna quilt it good or it might fall apart. LOL The blocks could be 60 or 70 yrs old. They're dirty, but I can't wash it until it is quilted or it will for sure fall apart.

LOL, this isn't quilting, but I still have a baby afghan I started knitting back in 1970 when I was expecting my first baby. I made the mistake of telling #1 son about it and he asks about it sometimes when he is feeling ornery. Someday I have got to finish it. Good luck with your daughter's quilt! :-)

I have been working on it, on and off. Its about 2/3 of the way done and they just celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary on Sept. 11th. Its queen size.

How about a basket quilt from 1987? LOL LOl LOL
|
I'm guessing it's from the 40's
When my husband's grandma died, she left a lot of quilts in various stages, and there was NO other person interested in them I do have a 2 fabric quilt that only needs some hand quilting. I have not even thought of trying to finish it, something for my kids to inherit. I have 4-5 that I HAVE finished that are packed away, to be inherited, so don't be too shocked that that one is unfinished |
I'm pleased to say, I only have one UFO and it is less than a year old. But, I have 5 finished cross stitch from about 20 years ago that are waiting to be framed together, somehow. They are 5 women from around the world. I call the grouping Ladies in Waiting. And they are still waiting. :)

Wow after reading just the first page of this thread I felt so proud of the three year old unfinished work...lol
I actually pulled one of those last night and today I am working on it hoping it would be done by the weekend since it is a small wall hanging. Will post pix |
MY very first sampler - started in 1989. I doubt that I will ever finish it as is.

I have one at least 10 years old, well the fabric is, ordered fabric and pattern, took me 5 years to even get to it, haven't touched it in 2, its hand pieced triple Irish chain, all I like is the borders, have thought about it, but have one put aside this year that I really want to finish but making purses at this time and have a wall quilt for gs for Christmas I was to do. Oh well, best intentions, lol

if I can find it, about 30 yrs ago I started a monstrosity, it will get finished, or i'll die trying someday

Probably from the early 1960's. I cut out a lot and started tops but 3 sons and later a daughter took up most of my time then.

Oh and I forgot my cathedral window...that turned into a pretty good size for a pillow...LOL cut all the squares and 2" squares for it..finally my mom took the squares and made me a quilt ..turned out nice...just not a cathedral window...so at least all the squares weren't wasted...

My oldest is 5 years old I think. It is still not ready to put the blocks together or quilt. My goal was to finish it this year. Due to some life things I won't make my goal. I did finish several UFO's this year. My goal for the year was to finish 2 UFO's before I started a new project. I did Ok with this.

I have a cross-stitched quilt I started somewhere around 1963. It was large pieces (not just blocks) of roses in three pinks. Always liked it -- still do. Plan on finishing it (I know where it is !!!), just have too many other UFO's I've been working on. May even try hand quilting it myself.

After reading these posts, I no longer have "the guilts" about not completing my first quilt after 7 years. Maybe it can wait a little longer.

a wedding ring quilt I started in 1995
|
I made the top of a dresden plate tablerunner and began handquuilting it, to unfortunately realize the blue be gone pen got permanently marked on the quilt because I did my quilting outside on a sunny day. Well found this last year and yes after about 18 yrs the blue markings finally disappeared, so hopefully I get back to it and finally finish it.

my oldest is from 1974 LOL

errr....ummm....i'm kind of embarrassed to admit it, but i have a set of embroidered squares i started back on a choir tour, back in 1967. haven't finished the hand embroidery, yet. now that i've retired, i might have enough time. if i can find them all...

I haven't been quilting long enough to have a UFO that old! I just recently finally finished my "first" quilt...it started as a throw, then I decided I could manage queen size, then we bought a king size bed so I "needed" to make it larger. Ended up so big I had no room to lay it out so it sat as just a top for about a year while I made several other quilts. Then we had new flooring put in downstairs and I took advantage of having an empty living room to lay it out and get it basted and now it's finally done and lives on our bed. It was my first try at patchwork, my first try at FMQ...thankfully it's really scrappy so a lot of "sins" are hidden!! I'm pretty proud I managed to FMQ a 120" square quilt without using a longarm machine, even if my swirls and flowers are a little...off. LOL
Right now my oldest UFO is only about 2 months old! |
6 yrs!!! I completed the top just this year. It was a class and when the class ended, my husbands health took a dive . Put the quilt on the back burner and have completed several since, but this one is still waiting to be hand quilted. I'm a very patient person!!! LOL
|
Officially, I have only been seriously quilting for 11 years. Now that being said my oldest UFO is 8 years old. I know hot a great start.
|
Somewhere in my house is an Irish chain quilt that I pieced together when I was 16. I never quilted it. One of these days. I guess that makes my quilt almost 40 years old and not done.
|
So ladies, what is it with so many of us having our 1st be the one that isn't finished?? Had to laugh at this one because i am guilty also. Started with a machine that was grouchy so i decided to hand piece. Well at one point i realized that unless i added a lot more other yhings, i would finish a very small quilt. It's fabric left from some of my sisters sewing projects as a teen. She just turned 40. I love the fabric and the blocks and pull it out every so often to sew on it. Started around 15 yrs ago

My oldest unfinished is an apple core quilt that was started in 1994. I spent years accumulating patches for it. I finished the top in 2011 (it is hand pieced). I hadn't quilted it because I have no place to pin baste anything larger than a twin (quilt shop closed). I hope to rectify that this winter OR I will just use a thick batt and tie it.
Nearly all of my unfinished projects date from 2007 and later. In 2011, I did a big cleanup and either completed or gave away anything before 2007 that wasn't already in active progress. Don't miss any of the ones I gave away, but it was hard at the time. |
