Right now, I just throw all my scraps in a basket. They are organized by color, but little else. this has worked ok so far, but they are becoming a little unruly, and they get crushed and wrinkled. Do you/would you recommend cutting them into squares (of the largest size I could get out of the scrap) so that I could store them more easily? Is that worth the time, and would I lose a lot of fabric by cutting?
Other ideas?
thanks

My very favorite quilting website with my very favorite method of organizing scraps: http://quiltville.com/scrapusersystem.shtml
Hope you like it!
Take a look at some of the quilts. It's definitely worth it and you will lose next to nothing.
If you end up with any shreds and confetti use it to stuff pet beds or toys that are best with pure cotton.
Have fun and happy quilting!

I just organized all my scraps like this last weekend! It was a little time consuming, but I felt so much better afterwards! I cut my scraps into strips: 1 1/2; 2 2 1/2; 3; 3 1/2; 4. Then I put them into those clear plastic containers and labeled it. Saved a lot of room! I just looked at the fabric and then measured it to get the most out of it. That saved a lot on "leftovers" Good luck!

Great sites, thanks! I am working on organizing my sewing room, using tips on this forum. Going great so far, I may post pics when I am finished. Luckily I am getting to it before it is too out of hand.

I throw all the scraps together, not organized by color, then when there's a good collection I cut into 1.5" strips, separate into light and dark, and make scrappy log cabin quilts. I like to use Judy Martin designs, or make up my own, or just do a standard log cabin. If the piece is pretty big, or if it is something that I might use for applique, I will save it without cutting.
